Skiing in Tre Cime di Lavaredo: the resort’s highlights
Tre Cime di Lavaredo (3 Zinnen Dolomites) stretches between the villages of Sesto, San Candido, Versciaco, Braies, and Dobbiaco, in the heart of eastern South Tyrol. The ski area offers 115 km of slopes spread over five connected mountains, with constant views of the legendary peaks of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, one of the most photographed landscapes in the world. Its altitude (1,130–2,200 m) and northern orientation guarantee excellent quality natural snow, complemented by a state-of-the-art snowmaking system that covers 100% of the domain.
A technical and spectacular domain
3 Zinnen Dolomites is part of Dolomiti Superski, the largest interconnected domain in the world, but retains its intimate, alpine identity.
The slopes are long, varied, and surrounded by forests, perfect for skiers looking for fluidity and open landscapes. Among the most notable are:
- Holzriese, one of the steepest black runs in Italy, with a 72% gradient.
- Raut, a panoramic descent that winds through fir forests.
- Rotwandwiesen (Croda Rossa), ideal for carving and families.
- Orto del Toro, with direct views of the Tre Cime and Monte Elmo.
The five areas—Monte Elmo, Croda Rossa, Orto del Toro, Val Comelico, and Braies—are connected by fast, modern gondola lifts, ensuring comfort and continuity.
Nature, authenticity, and silence
Unlike other more crowded resorts, Tre Cime retains an authentic and serene atmosphere. The villages in the valley maintain their traditional architecture, Tyrolean cuisine, and alpine lifestyle. The ski area blends harmoniously into the protected landscape of the Tre Cime Natural Park, an environment of forests and rock where skiing is experienced with respect and contemplation.
First-class cross-country skiing and ski touring
The Alta Pusteria region is a European benchmark for cross-country skiing. More than 200 km of perfectly groomed Nordic trails connect San Candido, Dobbiaco, and Sesto, hosting international competitions such as the FIS Cross-Country World Cup. In addition, ski touring enthusiasts can ascend to the Rifugio Locatelli or Val Fiscalina mountain huts, two iconic routes for sustainable alpine tourism.
Tyrolean cuisine and wellness
The mountain cuisine here reflects its dual Italian and Austrian soul: smoked speck, canederli, goulash, strudel, and Alto Adige wines. Refuges such as Rifugio Rudi, Rifugio Jora Hütte, and Rifugio Pollaio offer local products and genuine hospitality. After skiing, visitors enjoy the tranquility of San Candido, with its thermal spa and alpine architecture.
Sustainability and clean energy
3 Zinnen Dolomites stands out for its environmental commitment. 100% of the energy used in its ski lifts and snow cannons comes from local hydroelectric sources, and the resort is part of the Alpine Pearls program for its promotion of car-free tourism. Regional trains arrive directly in Versciaco, where a gondola departs from the foot of the station.
