In a context marked by climate variability and a later-than-expected opening, Baqueira Beret has come out on top with a successful 2024-2025 winter season. The iconic resort in the Spanish Pyrenees has once again demonstrated its operational resilience and appeal, passing the symbolic milestone of one million skier days (1,020,796 to be precise), while maintaining outstanding service and snow quality across its entire domain.

This result, achieved through careful snow management, diversification of services and an ambitious events strategy, reinforces Baqueira Beret’s position as a benchmark in the Pyrenees.

A season marked by high-quality snow and excellent slope preparation

Although total snowfall was lower this year (320 cm compared to 491 cm last season), the resort benefited from favourable conditions for piste maintenance, thanks in particular to a lower average temperature (1.2°C), one degree lower than the previous winter. This ensured an average snow depth of 80 cm, compared to 73 cm in 2023-2024.

The exceptional work of the maintenance teams also led to an increase in the daily groomed surface area, reaching an average of 522 hectares, with a peak of 132 kilometres prepared in a single day.

Balanced visitor numbers across the entire resort

The four sectors of the ski area, which covers 2,273 hectares, all enjoyed good visitor numbers. The Beret and Bonaigua areas in particular recorded an increase in visitor numbers of 1.5 and 1 percentage point respectively compared to the previous winter. This improvement can be partly explained by more favourable road conditions, with the Bonaigua mountain pass only closed for one day compared to nine last year, and snow chains only required for 13 days between Baqueira and Beret, compared to 16 previously.

Enhanced services for optimal comfort

The season was marked by strong demand for comfort services, particularly the new lockers installed at level 1500, which made logistics easier for skiers. The themed restaurants enjoyed high booking rates, demonstrating Baqueira Beret’s commitment to offering a complete experience to its visitors.

The beautifully renovated Hotel Montarto continued to play a central role, offering quality accommodation at the foot of the slopes throughout the season.

A prestigious programme of events

Baqueira Beret has been buzzing this year with major international events. After half a century of absence, the resort hosted the European Alpine Ski Cup on 6 and 7 February, broadcast live on Teledeporte, Esport3 and streamed on the FIS website.

Another highlight was the Freeride World Tour, which took place a week earlier in the renowned La Bamba area in tribute to Aymar Navarro, a local boy and renowned freerider. The event attracted the world’s best riders and confirmed the resort’s potential for hosting top-level competitions.

Other notable events included the Baqueira Race, rescheduled due to heavy snowfall, which closed the season on 13 April with nearly 300 participants, while the Polar Sound Festival was sold out with a weekend of concerts and a unique festive atmosphere.

Xavi Ubeira, commercial director of the Val d’Aran and Valls d’Àneu resort, gives an enthusiastic assessment of the season: ‘It was a very long but spectacular season, which started off slowly but improved every day, resulting in an excellent outcome for the resort, which exceeded one million skier days. We have just celebrated Baqueira Beret’s 60th anniversary with a clientele that demands quality, and this is precisely where we focus all our efforts, both in our investments and in our day-to-day management. We are already working on the summer activities that the resort will offer in July and August.”

Summer opening in the pipeline

The momentum at Baqueira Beret does not stop with the snow. In July, the resort will reopen its doors to host the Val d’Aran by UTMB event, one of the major trail running events in Europe. The Hotel Montarto will reopen for the occasion, along with the summer operation of the TSD Bosc and TSD Clot der Os ski lifts, providing direct access to numerous hiking trails and mountain bike routes.
