The Villard-Reculas ski resort
Long before the boom in winter tourism, Villard-Reculas lived to the rhythm of mountain farming, peddling and the seasons. Its built heritage bears witness to this history: stone and wood chalets, narrow streets, centuries-old chapels such as Notre-Dame-de-la-Pitié (1620) and the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church (1757), rebuilt after the fire of 1747. For a long time, the village was only accessible via the spectacular Pas de la Confession, a cliff-side road offering breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks.
In 1946, two enthusiasts installed the first ski lift connecting Villard-Reculas to Alpe d’Huez, making the resort the very first satellite of the Grand Domaine Ski area. Since then, the village has evolved without losing sight of its roots, retaining its peaceful atmosphere and traditional architecture, far from large concrete developments.
The ski slopes of Villard-Reculas
