The Vaujany ski resort is committed to sustainable development

With regard to sustainable development, the resort has implemented a Territorial Climate Energy Plan. This will help to limit the area’s impact on the climate in terms of greenhouse gases.

Aware of the ecological challenges, the resort and the municipalities of Oisans are stepping up their practical initiatives, such as the development of shared composting sites. These spaces enable organic household waste, such as fruit and vegetable peelings and egg shells, to be recycled naturally. The objective is clear: to preserve the fragile balance of this exceptional mountain environment while involving residents and visitors in an eco-responsible approach

Skiing in Vaujany: the resort’s strong points

In the heart of the Oisans region, in the Isère department, Vaujany combines the best of two worlds: the authenticity of an Alpine village and the power of a large ski area.

It is part of the Alpe d’Huez Grand Domaine Ski area, with 250 km of connected slopes, but retains its own serene and distinguished atmosphere.

From its cobbled streets and traditional chalets, a modern system of lifts and gondolas takes you in just a few minutes to the Montfrais area, the Pic Blanc (3,330 m) or the legendary descent to Oz-en-Oisans.

The contrast is fascinating: Vaujany offers the infrastructure of a large resort, but with the soul of a village that takes care of every detail.

A large and panoramic domain

Vaujany is the quietest and most accessible gateway to the Grand Domaine.

Its own sector, Montfrais, is ideal for families and beginners: wide, sunny slopes surrounded by forests. From there, the more adventurous can connect to the more challenging areas of the Dôme des Rousses or Pic Blanc, enjoying descents of more than 2,000 meters of vertical drop to the Oisans valley.

The entire domain offers 135 slopes, 84 ski lifts, and a total vertical drop of 2,200 meters, one of the highest in Europe.

The panoramic views of the Meije, Belledonne, and Ecrins are breathtakingly beautiful.

An authentic village with a modern soul

Unlike artificially created resorts, Vaujany is a historic village inhabited all year round, which has managed to modernize without losing its essence.

Its elegant and respectful urban planning connects the different levels by means of lifts and covered walkways, making it easy to get around even with children or ski equipment.

The center combines traditional Savoyard architecture with exceptional facilities:

  • Sports and wellness center with Olympic-size swimming pool, skating rink, and spa.
  • Museum of Memory and cultural spaces that tell the story of the valley.
  • High-end accommodation, with boutique chalets, charming hotels, and a much more select than crowded atmosphere.

A model of alpine sustainability

Few resorts represent ecological modernity as well as Vaujany.

Thanks to its hydroelectric power plant, the village produces more energy than it consumes. This energy balance makes it possible to finance quality infrastructure and services, making Vaujany a European benchmark for sustainable development in the mountains.

In addition, its connection to the Alpe d’Huez ski area by cable car limits road traffic and promotes soft mobility.

The result: a quiet, clean, and respectful resort where luxury is measured in space, time, and serenity.

Skiing, wellness, and contemplation

Vaujany does not seek to compete with noise or parties; its luxury is calm.

After a day of skiing, visitors often relax in its panoramic spa or enjoy a Savoyard dinner in front of the pink peaks at sunset.

The evenings here smell of wood, melted cheese, and fresh air.

Its proximity to Alpe d’Huez, Oz-en-Oisans, and Villars-Reculas offers endless combinations of itineraries, but always with one point of return: the tranquility of Vaujany, its most precious identity.

Tips from the I Love Ski Community for skiing in Vaujany

1. Start at Montfrais.

Perfect for warming up your legs: gentle slopes, good snow, and direct access from the village by gondola.

2. Descend to Oz-en-Oisans.

A classic not to be missed. 2,200 meters of continuous descent from the Dôme des Rousses to the valley. Impressive for its length and views.

3. Make the most of midday.

While the other skiers are having lunch, the slopes in the Montfrais sector are almost empty. It’s the ideal time to enjoy the silence of the forest.

4. Set aside time for the spa.

The Vaujany sports and wellness center is one of the most comprehensive in the Alps. Ideal for families or for recharging your batteries after a busy day.

5. Dinner in the village.

Local restaurants offer refined Savoyard cuisine made with products from the valley. Don’t miss the tartiflette with local reblochon cheese.

6. An “off-ski” day steeped in history.

The Museum of Memory and the views from the village church are worth spending a morning without skis. Vaujany has soul, and you can feel it off the slopes too.

7. Watch the sunset from your balcony.

The sunsets over the Ecrins are a silent spectacle. In Vaujany, luxury is silent.
