France
The Les Sybelles ski area brings together six interconnected resorts—Saint Sorlin d’Arves, Le Corbier, Saint Jean d’Arves, Saint Colomban des Villards, La Toussuire, and Les Bottières—forming one of the largest ski areas in France. In total, the resort offers 136 slopes and 69 ski lifts, guaranteeing a varied and accessible experience for all levels. Thanks to its 638 snow cannons, the quality of the snow cover remains optimal throughout the season, allowing you to enjoy skiing in the best conditions.
Saint Sorlin d’Arves offers a wide variety of accommodation, equipment rentals, furnished apartments, cottages, hotels, residences, holiday centers… and the possibility of booking online.
In winter, enjoy skiing in the heart of the large Sybelles ski area, discover the unique mountain atmosphere of the village of Saint Sorlin d’Arves, the sun and optimal snow, as well as a wide variety of leisure and relaxation activities.
Les Sybelles is located between the Maurienne valley in the north and the Romanche valley in the south, bordered by the Aiguilles d’Arves massif to the east and the Grandes Rousses and Belledonne ranges to the west.
With peaks reaching 3,514 m (Aiguille Méridionale), a large glacier area in St Sorlin, and immense alpine meadows, the valley is a playground for snow and nature lovers, ideal for both summer and winter. Although covered with snow on east- or north-facing slopes, many routes retain cold snow, excellent for fabulous descents.
The positive elevation ranges from 400 to 2,000 meters depending on the sector. Around the St Sorlin glacier, accessible in an hour from the ski lifts and the Étendard refuge, there are numerous peaks: Aiguille de Corre, Dôme and Cimes de la Cochette, Wild and Valette, and the Étendard, a magnificent viewpoint at 3,464 m.

In terms of leisure, Les Sybelles® is innovating with the launch of Sybelles Explor Games®, an interactive mobile adventure that invites skiers to explore the 393 hectares of the domain to save the planet from climate change.
Finally, each resort in the domain now has its own #6belles ambassador. In Saint Sorlin d’Arves, it is Justine, a sports shop manager who is passionate about the mountains and photography, who shares her love for the village and Savoyard hospitality on social media.
New detachable chairlift “Gaston Express”
A new six-seater chairlift replaces the old “Torret” double ski lift, located near the snowpark. Its installation aims to speed up access to the Ouillon sector, a real crossroads in the Sybelles® domain.
This chairlift pays tribute to Gaston Maulin, a visionary pioneer and founder of the Sybelles® ski area. In 1998, he spearheaded an ambitious project to connect the six resorts around the Ouillon massif, creating one of the largest ski areas in France.
Ouillon webcam
Located at an altitude of 2,400 meters, the Ouillon sector is the vibrant heart and central hub of the ski area. A new 360° panoramic webcam has been installed, offering a spectacular view of the connections between resorts, the Belledonne mountain range, and, in the distance, the majestic Mont Blanc.
Skiing in Saint-Sorlin-d’Arves: the resort’s strong points
Saint-Sorlin-d’Arves is one of the star villages within the Les Sybelles ski area, combining authentic mountain life with excellent connections to the large ski area.
Direct access to the Les Sybelles ski area
Saint-Sorlin is fully integrated into the Les Sybelles ski area, with 310 km of slopes connecting resorts such as La Toussuire, Le Corbier, and Saint-Jean-d’Arves. This means that from the village itself, you can pick up your skis and access a vast network of runs.
Varied terrain and opportunities for everyone
- Gentle, safe slopes for beginners in the areas near the village.
- More technical terrain in the La Croix des Verneys and Crêt du Midi sectors, especially in optimal snow conditions.
- Freeride areas on the north-facing slopes, ideal after fresh snowfall.
Altitude and snow conditions
Saint-Sorlin has elevations of up to ~2,620 m (depending on the sector of the ski area).
Its well-balanced exposure (north and east) helps to preserve snow for longer, and its technical snow system reinforces coverage on key slopes.
Mountain village atmosphere
Saint-Sorlin has managed to preserve its alpine identity: stone and wood chalets, quiet streets, a close-knit community atmosphere, and well-regarded essential services (rentals, ski schools, local guides).
For those looking to unwind, it is an ideal base, less hectic than the larger resorts.
Services and amenities
- Local ski schools with instructors from the valley, who are particularly good at guiding routes between neighboring resorts.
- Mountain restaurants serving quality Savoyard dishes.
- Good lift connections that make it easy to move between sectors without wasting time.
Practical tips from the I Love Ski Community for skiing in Saint-Sorlin-d’Arves
- If you have a limited time, start with the highest sectors: the snow will hold up better early in the day than on lower slopes.
- Use your Les Sybelles ski pass to explore routes to La Toussuire or Saint-Jean-d’Arves depending on the wind and orientation of the day.
- On windy days, opt for east- or south-facing descents in the domain, which are less exposed.
- Wear sunscreen and good quality sunglasses: the altitude and snow reflect a lot of light, especially in open areas.
- If you are staying in the village, try to choose accommodation with direct access to the ski lifts to maximize your time on the slopes and minimize travel time.
