Switzerland
A charming village and quintessential traditional settlement, Grimentz is a cultural gem. As you wander through its geranium-decorated alleyways, you can’t help but feel transported back to times gone by. Grimentz offers up its heritage with simplicity, whether through a visit, a conversation, or an encounter…
The Grimentz resort has rich natural and cultural resources and has exploited them to offer its guests a range of varied activities: winter sports, mountain excursions, sporting events, via ferrata, a visit to the Moiry dam, etc. But above all, Grimentz attracts those who are nostalgic for the old days and those who know how to be charmed by various century-old buildings.
For those who cannot separate “cultural” relaxation from their sporting holidays. For those who expect their holidays to be a source of well-being for the body, but also for the mind. Grimentz is not only a charming village, but also a ski resort in the Valais Alps, located in the Val d’Anniviers at an altitude of 1,570 m. A picturesque and flower-filled village (in summer) with a preserved heritage, it also occupies a magnificent site that makes it a popular destination for both winter sports enthusiasts and hikers.
From spring onwards, the geraniums (more than 30 different species!) that adorn the balconies of century-old houses in red give Grimentz a touch of cheerfulness that contrasts with the majestic white coat that dresses the surrounding mountains. The Grimentz ski area covers 20 hectares, from Becs de Bosson to an altitude of 2,900 m. From the heights, you have a splendid panoramic view of the Val d’Anniviers and the Rhone Valley. The Grimentz area has 42 km of ski slopes, including 13 km of blue slopes, 17 km of red slopes, and 13 km of black slopes.
In addition, the same pass gives you access to all the ski resorts in Val d’Anniviers (Zinal, St-Luc/Chandolin, Vercorin), which is more than 220 km of slopes. Since January 2014, a cable car has linked Grimentz directly to the resort of Zinal. At 3 km long, it is the third longest cable car in Switzerland.
Whether you prefer skiing, snowboarding, or telemark skiing, the slopes of Grimentz are suitable for all levels. From beginners to freeriders, from young children to experienced skiers, the slopes of Grimentz are perfect for all winter sports enthusiasts.
After a day in the fresh air, learn about the history of the village of Grimentz, its anecdotes, its alleys… and to finish, enjoy an aperitif with Vin du Glacier in the bourgeoisie’s cellar.
Unique in the Val d’Anniviers and more particularly in Grimentz, Vin du Glacier is an oenological myth that can only be tasted in the village’s cellars. The principle of Vin du Glacier is extremely simple: the barrels are never emptied and each year new wine is added to the old. The oldest can be over 125 years old! In Grimentz alone, there are more than 100 cellars. Each one has a famous barrel of glacier wine. Carefully preserved!

Skiing in Grimentz: the resort’s strong points
Grimentz, nestled in the Anniviers Valley (Valais), is one of the most authentic and picturesque gems of the Swiss Alps. This village, with its sun-blackened wooden houses and flower-laden balconies, embodies the essence of the most traditional Valais. But beyond its beauty, Grimentz is a modern and dynamic ski resort, connected to Zinal by a panoramic cable car, forming an exceptional ski area with over 115 km of slopes. The balance between modernity and authenticity makes Grimentz one of Switzerland’s most inspiring destinations for ski and mountain lovers.
A high-altitude ski area with guaranteed snow
The Grimentz-Zinal ski area extends between 1,570 and 2,900 meters above sea level, guaranteeing quality snow throughout the season. Its 115 km of slopes, spread across both valleys, offer a wide variety of runs: from wide blue slopes perfect for carving to technical descents and highly appreciated freeride areas.
The “Piste du Chamois” run, which descends to the village, is one of the most iconic, with a vertical drop of over 1,300 meters and spectacular views of the Weisshorn and the Matterhorn.
The Grimentz-Zinal cable car connection, opened in 2013, allows you to easily explore the entire domain without having to take off your skis.
Authenticity and charm of the Valais
Grimentz has retained its alpine village soul. Its cobbled streets, century-old barns, and wooden taverns create a unique atmosphere where time seems to stand still.
Respect for tradition is combined with a warm and modern welcome: charming hotels, family chalets, and small restaurants offer a genuinely Swiss experience.
Local wine, made from the Cornalin grape variety, and typical Valais dishes such as raclette and barley soup are part of the ritual of every winter day.
Freeriding, sports, and adventure
Zinal is known for its sporting atmosphere and wide off-piste areas, making the resort one of the most popular destinations for freeriders in Switzerland. Areas such as Gardes de Bordon and Chamois offer powder snow descents with safety controls and specific signage.
In addition, the resort has a modern snowpark, timing areas, and beginner areas for families and first-timers.
Nature and sustainability
The Anniviers Valley is one of the best-preserved in Valais. The resort actively participates in the Swisstainable program, with policies on electric mobility, energy efficiency, and water protection.
Access by public transport is easy: from Sierre, a bus goes directly to Grimentz in less than an hour, allowing you to get there without a car.
Gastronomy and alpine well-being
Mountain refuges, such as Bendolla or the Cabane des Becs de Bosson, offer home cooking with panoramic views of peaks over 4,000 meters.
In the village, restaurants such as Mélèze and Moiry stand out for their intimate atmosphere and regional specialties. Some hotels have spas with wooden saunas and outdoor hot tubs facing the Weisshorn, creating a wellness experience in the heart of nature.
