Flumet ski resort location
Located in the Savoie department, in the heart of Haut Val d’Arly, the resort-town of Flumet – Saint Nicolas La Chapelle, features typical Savoyard architecture. Those who seek peace and mountain traditions will make the right coming to this ski resort, not to mention that has one of the largest skiable areas in the world: Espace Diamant with its impresive 192 km of slopes in front of Mont-Blanc.
The resort is located in an old medieval city, the historical capital of Val d’Arly on the route that connects Albertville with Chamonix. Flumet – Saint Nicolas La Chapelle is located 900 m in a rocky area overlooking two mountain streams: Arly and Arrondine.
How to get to the Flumet resort
We can get to the resort by train (Albertville SNCF train station at 22 km) and by plane (Chambéry and Geneva airports at 75 km and 85 km, respectively).
At the foot of Mont Charvin, chalets and small houses can be seen scattered under the watchful eye of the Saint-Nicolas bell tower, giving the place a high mountain spirit. Right next to the resort we find two tourist villages connected by free buses. These villages give access to the Espace Diamant ski area: Flumet – Les Seigneurs (1000m above sea level) and Flumet – Les Évettes (1030m), both presided over by the summit lovingly nicknamed “Gâteau”.
Flumet is part of one of the largest domains in the world
The Flumet – Saint-Nicolas La Chapelle ski area, surrounded by Mont Reguet (1460 m) and Roc des Évettes (1600 m), is part of Espace Diamant and its 192 km of slopes shared with other four resorts.
The Flumet – Saint Nicolas La Chapelle ski area, Espace Diamant, is shared with Notre Dame de Bellecombe, Crest-Voland / Cohennoz, Praz sur Arly and Les Saisies / Hauteluce. It has 158 trails (30 green, 49 blue, 69 red, 10 black, served by 82 ski lifts) along 192 km with a vertical drop around 1000 m in Flumet – Les Seigneurs and 2069 m at the top of Mont du Vorès upon arrival of the Plan des Fours and Douce chair lifts.
The Flumet / Espace Diamant ski slopes welcome all kinds of skiers; crossing forests, alpine pastures and discovering charming villages. If we look up, we can see the Mont-Blanc and Aravis ranges, and we can feel a small part of the mountain.
For amateur skiers, professionals, young or mature…
The Saute-Mouton route offers part of the best views of Mont-Blanc, Pierra Menta, Porte des Aravis, as well as the Roselend and Girotte dams. One of the most interesting descents of the resort is the one that runs along the peaks of Mont du Vorès and Mont Rond, an alpine route that offers sensations of pure, unpretentious skiing.
For beginners, the Flumet – Les Évettes sector offers two beginner lifts, “Ecureuil” and “Goleron”, which give access to the initiation slopes: the lower part of the green “Belette” trail to start, the green trail and slightly longer “Marmotte”, as well as the blue “Chamois”. When we are ready and have lost the sliding fear, we can try the green “Belette” trail from the arrival of the “Évettes” chairlift.
To fully enjoy the Flumet leisure parks (Lores and Évettes sectos), you must visit the slopes of Notre Dame de Bellecombe. We find the “Wouaouland” leisure parks in Mont Reguet and Mont Rond:
- The first one is on the blue Lièvre trail at the arrival of the Verdette ski lift.
- From the Mont Rond red trail, we can get there by the Mont Rond chairlift or the Boulangère ski lift.
- Last, the most freestyle-oriented, “Waouland Teux”, on the blue Teux trail accessible through the ski lift of the same name.
- “Wouaouland” is a park with multiple natural obstacles, as well as ramps, turns and modules to have fun both with family or friends.
If you still haven’t decided on visiting Flumet, maybe this will do it
In the Espace Diamant area, we also find:
- The boardercross (chain of potholes, sharp turns) and snowpark (boxes, potholes of different levels: green, blue and red) in “Wouaouland du Cernix” in the Cohennoz / Crest-Voland sector.
- Or in the Cohennoz / Crest-Voland sector, the “Opoualand” play area totally aimed at children (a trail full of modules and games designed for them).
If we want to forget a bit about the hustle and bustle, it is best to complete the Saute-Mouton route and its views of Mont-Blanc, Pierra Menta, Porte des Aravis, as well as Roselend and Girotte: there is no better way to relax and treat yourself.
The fun is guaranteed with the yooner (hybrid sliding device, halfway between the sled and the ski, consisting of a seat, suspension and a skate), which will make your experience in the snow unforgettable. Another way to slide is the snowscoot (scooter consisting of a handlebar, a fork and 2 mini skis).
The resort also offers ski joëring (horse-drawn skis), which provide the opportunity to have a different perspective on nature, the mountains and respect for the environment.
Skiing in Flumet / Saint-Nicolas-la-Chapelle: the resort’s strengths
Flumet, together with Saint-Nicolas-la-Chapelle, is part of the Espace Diamant, a vast ski area with over 190 km of connected slopes. The Flumet sector itself offers around 90 km of varied runs, with direct access to neighboring resorts such as Crest-Voland, Praz-sur-Arly, and Notre-Dame-de-Bellecombe.
A family-friendly resort
Flumet stands out for its welcoming atmosphere and human scale. Its slopes are suitable for beginners and families, with safe learning areas and zones for progressing without difficulty. It is a highly valued destination for those seeking tranquility and authenticity.
Savoyard village charm
The center of Flumet retains its traditional architecture with wooden and stone chalets, while Saint-Nicolas-la-Chapelle offers open views of Mont Blanc and an authentic mountain setting. This rural character adds value compared to more urbanized resorts.
Variety of slopes and experiences
The domain combines gentle slopes for beginners with red and black runs that challenge the most experienced skiers. Connections to the rest of the Espace Diamant multiply the possibilities, guaranteeing full days of skiing.
Complementary activities
In addition to downhill skiing, Flumet offers snowshoeing itineraries, cross-country skiing in the upper Val d’Arly, and après-ski activities focused on Savoyard gastronomy and local life. The resort offers a balance between sport, leisure, and mountain culture.
Value for money
Flumet ski passes are generally more affordable than those in large Alpine resorts, making it a competitive option for families and groups looking for long days of skiing without breaking the bank.
Limitations to consider
The altitude range, between 1,000 and 2,060 meters, can affect snow quality at the beginning and end of the season. Although the resort itself is not extensive, its integration into the Espace Diamant compensates for this limitation.
