France | Región: Northern Alps

Praz sur Arly is an authentic mountain village located a stone’s throw from the prestigious resort of Megève. Offering breathtaking views of Mont Blanc, this village nestled in the heart of a pretty valley is one of the gateways to the Espace Diamant ski area.

Despite its development linked to the white gold rush, Praz has managed to preserve its High Savoyard village spirit and traditions. For over fifty years, the resort has combined charm and modernity in the heart of the Mont Blanc region.

With the creation of the Espace Diamant and its integration into the Val d’Arly area (EVA), Praz sur Arly offers a vast ski area with between 120 and 185 km of slopes depending on the ski pass chosen, spread between 1,000 and 2,070 metres above sea level.

The Praz sur Arly ski area

Praz sur Arly, a family-friendly resort on a human scale, is steeped in the history of winter tourism: it was here that France’s first school ski trip took place in 1950. The area is ideal for all levels, with accessible slopes and a regular bus service making it easy to get around without a car.

The area has 73 slopes with a total of 120 km of skiable terrain, served by 55 ski lifts, mainly T-bar lifts. For tobogganing enthusiasts, there are two dedicated slopes on site.

The snowpark is located in the neighbouring resorts of the Espace Diamant, including Notre-Dame-de-Bellecombe, Les Saisies and Crest-Voland Cohennoz, all easily accessible from Praz.

Skiing in Praz-sur-Arly: the resort’s strong points

At the gateway to the Pays du Mont-Blanc, between Megève and Flumet, the resort of Praz-sur-Arly combines the charm of an authentic Savoyard village with direct access to one of the largest ski areas in the massif: the Espace Diamant, offering more than 190 kilometers of interconnected slopes between Praz-sur-Arly, Notre-Dame-de-Bellecombe, Les Saisies, Crest-Voland/Cohennoz, and Flumet. Its privileged geographical position—between the Aravis and Beaufortain mountains—ensures excellent snow quality and exceptional panoramic views of Mont Blanc.

The local ski area of Praz-sur-Arly extends between 1,035 and 2,065 meters in altitude, with 60 kilometers of slopes of its own, which connect easily with the rest of the Espace Diamant. In total, skiers can choose from 158 slopes of all levels: green for beginners, blue for those who want to progress in a safe environment, and red and black for more technical slopes and open landscapes. The slopes starting from the Ban Rouge sector, with their nearly 1,000-meter elevation difference, are a classic among enthusiasts for their width, exposure, and panoramic views of the Mont Blanc massif and the Arly Valley.

Praz-sur-Arly also stands out for its family atmosphere and architectural authenticity: wooden chalets, small local shops, and a warm atmosphere where skiing coexists with village life. The resort is part of the “Famille Plus” label, which guarantees child-friendly services (daycare centers, sledding areas, snow gardens, ski school). In addition, 50% of the domain is equipped with snow cannons to keep the slopes in optimal condition throughout the season. The modern Crêt du Midi chairlift provides quick access to the high altitudes and connections to Notre-Dame-de-Bellecombe and Les Saisies.

The natural environment of Praz-sur-Arly offers a unique experience: just a few minutes from the slopes, visitors can admire the hot air balloons that take off every morning from the valley—a distinctive symbol of the resort—take part in snowshoe trails, or enjoy panoramic helicopter rides. With its medium size and balance between comfort and authenticity, Praz-sur-Arly attracts both families and skiers looking for a peaceful atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of the large Alpine resorts.

Useful tip for enjoying Praz-sur-Arly to the fullest

Start your day in the Ban Rouge sector, where the early hours offer the best snow and spectacular views. As the sun rises, head to the slopes connecting Notre-Dame-de-Bellecombe and Crest-Voland to explore the vastness of the Espace Diamant.

If you are traveling with your family or are a beginner, take advantage of the Crêt du Midi and Front de Neige slopes, with gentle slopes and direct access from the village. On clear days, don’t miss the opportunity to stop at the viewpoints of Mont de Vorès, one of the most photogenic spots in the domain.

And if you fancy a different experience, book a hot air balloon flight at sunrise: flying over the snow-covered valley of Praz-sur-Arly is one of the most magical experiences in the French Alps.
