A gem between France and Switzerland
The Les Rousses resort, located between 1,120 and 1,680 meters above sea level in the Jura Mountains, is one of the most iconic snow destinations in eastern France.
Just 45 minutes from Geneva, the resort spans a Franco-Swiss territory comprising four charming villages: Les Rousses, Lamoura, Prémanon, and Bois-d’Amont.
This cross-border character gives it a unique identity, where French hospitality blends with Swiss precision and nature that is as serene as it is majestic.
A family-friendly and accessible ski area
The Les Rousses ski area offers 50 km of alpine slopes spread over four complementary sectors: Les Tuffes, La Serra, Le Noirmont, and La Dôle (the latter on the Swiss side).
Each area has its own personality:
- Les Tuffes is ideal for beginners and families, with gentle, well-oriented slopes.
- La Serra and Le Noirmont offer more technical descents and excellent snow conditions.
- La Dôle, connected by a shared ski pass, allows you to ski between two countries. The average altitude and north-facing orientation guarantee a constant and consistent snow cover, ideal for all levels.
A Nordic skiing paradise
Les Rousses is undoubtedly one of the European capitals of cross-country skiing.
Its Nordic domain—one of the largest in Europe—has more than 220 km of marked and signposted trails, which pass through forests, meadows, and frozen lakes.
Every year, the resort hosts the famous Transjurassienne, one of the most prestigious cross-country events on the international calendar. This domain, shared between France and Switzerland, represents the essence of cross-country skiing and direct contact with nature.
Authenticity and heritage
The village of Les Rousses retains the traditional atmosphere of the Jura, with its stone and wood architecture, cheese dairies, and small local shops.
Here you can visit the forts de Rousses, former military fortresses converted into Comté AOP cheese maturing cellars, where visitors can discover the secrets of local expertise.
Jura cuisine—yellow wine fondue, morels, artisanal charcuterie—rounds off an experience rich in identity.
Accessibility and hospitality
Less than an hour from Geneva and Lausanne, Les Rousses is a resort that is easily accessible by road or train (via Morez).
Its accommodation options include chalets, eco-friendly hotels, residences, and rural houses, managed by local families.

Les Rousses is the first French resort to receive the “Flocon Vert” (green snowflake) label. It is the promise of a natural and authentic winter.

Sustainable development at Les Rousses ski resort
Les Rousses ski resort owes its “Flocon Vert” label to the actions it has taken to protect this fragile environment. Far from being a “ski factory,” this Jura resort invites you to enjoy the pleasures of skiing while respecting nature.
Not only has it held the “Flocon vert” label since 2013, but in 2011 it also obtained ISO 14001 quality/environment certification.
The “Communauté de Communes de la Station des Rousses” has implemented a common environmental conservation policy with:
- A Territorial Climate and Energy Plan
- A public building renovation project
- Development of renewable and local energy sources. Creation of a wood-fired heating plant.
- A policy to optimize diesel and fuel consumption in the ski area
- A waste sorting policy organized by the Association de Lutte Contre le Gaspillage (Association for the Fight Against Waste)
- An exemplary approach to public transport mobility, with several alternatives to cars such as buses, carpooling, scooters, electric bicycles, and horse-drawn carriages.
All these actions lead to an improvement in these mountain resorts, trying to minimize the footprint we leave with tourism.
