Champagny en Vanoise, ski resort in the town of Plagne / Paradiski, is located 1250 meters above sea level in the Tarentaise Valley (near Courchevel).
The Champagny resort is one of the ten complexes that make up the set of winter resorts in La Plagne and its Grande Plagne area. It has in its territory the ski lifts of the SAP (Société d’Aménagement de la Plagne), including the Bellecôte glacier, and the STGM (Société du Téléphérique de la Grande-Motte, in the Tignes area).
Layout of the slopes at Champagny en Vanoise
Composed by two main areas (at two altitude levels) with very different environments, Champagny has a great diversity:
- Champagny Village, which consists of several villages where the main shops and services are grouped.
- The Champagny le Haut valley (5 km from the resort) is home to the Nordic ski area. It offers a variety of activities (cross-country skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, hiking, ice climbing …) to practice in a preserved natural area at the gates of the Vanoise National Park.
The Champagny resort in Vanoise has a free transport service in winter to facilitate travel between the many towns and ease access to activities: downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, walks …
The first National Park of France, has everything you need to make your visit unforgettable. Most of the 29 municipalities voted against the Park’s new proposal, which intended to contract them for 15 years. In fact, only Peisey-Nancroix and Saint-Martin-de-Belleville signed the proposal.
Champagny, a village with a special charm
Formed by villages with traditional houses (wood and stone), the town was transformed in 1971 with the construction of a small ski resort. The charm of the town, its baroque church and its small alleys that house chapels and oratories; these are some of its hallmarks. In Champagny-en-Vanoise, the art of hospitality is not an empty word.
Private state rental companies offer many types of accommodation. From studios to chalets for 15 people, with any type of decoration. The residents of the town know all the addresses in the town, as well as the best areas to practice off-piste.
It is not uncommon for a bottle of Savoy wine or a nice piece of Beaufort to await you upon arrival.
A lively village
Champagny-en-Vanoise is a town with immense energy, always on the move. The resort offers events and animations in all areas, but always respecting the values and sustainable development of the area. In summer, the town festivities provide a unique opportunity to meet the locals. This way you will discover the customs and traditions, giving the chance to taste the local food specialties. The area hosts many sporting events each season; trail, marathon, ice climbing championship … The leisure offer, both in winter and summer, is wide; film screening, children’s show, outdoor concerts, family challenge …
In 2014, the resort’s capacity, estimated by the Savoie Mont Blanc organization, was 5792 hotel rooms distributed in 810 establishments. The accommodation is distributed as follows: 391 rural houses; 4 tourist residences; 2 hotels; 1 outdoor hotel structure; a holiday center / hostel and 8 mountain huts.
The best areas of Champagny
Located on the southern slope of the Plagne ski resort, the Champagny gondola lift takes you to the alpine slopes in 8 minutes. There are three options:
- ski on the slopes of the Champagny sector (ideal for beginners),
- La Plagne Intégrale for skiing on 225 km of varied slopes,
- Unlimited Paradiski (access to the whole area) to ski in Les Arcs.
The snowgarden is located 1250 meters above sea level at the foot of Champagny. This represents the lowest point, which extends up to 3175 meters at the top of the Glacier chairlift. Like the style of the other resorts, the area is quite disparate. From the austere and steep slopes of the glacier to the wide, slightly sloping boulevards. The descents in the forest, for amateurs and expert skiers, are traced through a vast and beautiful landscape.
The La Plagne area is also linked from Montchavin to the neighboring area of Les Arcs by the Vanoise Express gondola, built by Poma in 2003. Together they build a large ski area called Paradiski that offers a total of 425 kilometers of slopes.
Nordic skiing, leisure and much more in Champagny
Thanks to its artificial snow net and despite its exposure to the south, Champagny offers skiing from mid-December to mid-April. As for new snow sports, boardercross (accessible from the Rossa chairlift at an altitude of 2200 m) offers a skills route open to all snowboarders and skiers.
For cross-country skiing (skating or classic) Champagny offers 22 km of slopes. At the same time it has the “4 Nordiques” seal (for the quality of the slopes and the environment, the services and the diversity of activities).
In addition to alpine and cross-country skiing, it is also possible to take advantage of the Champagny ski resort to practice:
- snowshoes (3 routes, from the center of the ski resort, one on top of the cable car and one in the Nordic area of Champagny le Haut)
- climbing on the “Tour de Glace” (a 22m high artificial structure unique in Europe),
- paragliding, initiation to biathlon and speed-riding.
For childcare, Champagny en Vanoise offers:
- a snowgarden located at the bottom of the gondola in a privileged and safe area. Available for children ages 3 and up.
- the “Les Cabris” kindergarten that offers indoor and outdoor activities from 18 months to 6 years.
