La Plagne

France | Región: Northern Alps

La Plagne is a ski resort in the French Alps, in the Savoie department, which has 225 km of slopes and 100 km² of skiable area, reaching a maximum altitude of 3250 meters.

La Plagne ski resort is part of Paradiski, the world’s second largest ski area. The huge Paradiski ski area is made up of 425km of interconnected runs.  The ski resorts of La Plagne and Les Arcs have been connected since 2003 by the Vanoise-Express, the largest cable car in the world. This 200-seat cable car links the two giants via Peisey-Vallandry. The three resorts are also part of the Compagnie des Alpes! By the way, did you know that this ski resort is part of one of the largest skiable domains in the world?

In recent years, La Plagne has strengthened its position as one of the flagship destinations within the Compagnie des Alpes, supported by long-term management, consistent investment and a clear territorial vision. This dynamic was further confirmed with the station’s recent decision to renew its confidence in the Compagnie des Alpes through to 2052. A strong commitment that shapes the future of the resort and ensures continuity in a model built on sustainable development, high-quality services and responsible tourism.

A breathtaking domain

Facing Mont Blanc, on the forest floor, you will be seduced by the authenticity of the renovated old village of Montchavin and charmed by the architecture of Les Coches (with its famous slate roofs) where stone and wood reign supreme.

The ski resort of La Plagne is now made up of eleven village resorts, each one typical and authentic. Through its different villages, La Plagne offers a range of atmospheres and accommodation… Traditional Savoyard family chalets, cosy hotel rooms or flats for the more festive, there is something for everyone. It is an ideal resort for snow classes!

70% of La Plagne’s ski area is located above 2000m, which guarantees excellent natural snow cover throughout the winter season. The artificial snow network ensures reliable snow cover and very good skiing conditions throughout the winter.

Here the “Family Plus Mountain” label takes on its full meaning. A car-free resort, La Plagne offers learning areas for beginners, entertainment and approved facilities for children from a very young age.

The mountain resort of La Plagne in summer

Play it like Tarzan! Explore the alpine canopy thanks to the adventure courses in La Plagne. The accrobranche allows you to get a bit of height, but above all to have fun in an ecosystem that is usually not very accessible.

Above the Isère or the Ours valley, facing the Vanoise glaciers or in the Tarentaise valley, the courses are adapted to everyone’s level and the workshops are each more fun than the last. No need to be jealous, children from 8 years old have their own accrobranche.

Kayaking, like mountain biking or trail running, is an outdoor sport. Fulfilling, exhilarating, demanding. And as always, La Plagne lends itself willingly to your game. For a kayaker, the Isère is undeniably one of the rivers “to do”, so why not try it?

From initiation to improvement, learn step by step, starting with a navigation on calm water, then on a part of the Isère, to finish in the rapids whitened by the foam!

To begin kayaking, calm water is a good place to start. Learn to steer your boat, to feel the ripples of the water, to follow a trajectory. Accessible from the age of 6 – provided you can swim.

Skiing in La Plagne: the highlights of the resort

Located in the heart of the Tarentaise Valley in Savoie, La Plagne is not just another resort — it is one of the largest and most iconic ski destinations in the world. As part of the legendary Paradiski area, together with Les Arcs and Peisey-Vallandry, it offers over 425 kilometres of interconnected slopes ranging from 1,250 to 3,250 metres in altitude. Linked by the spectacular Vanoise Express cable car, La Plagne epitomises the scale, fluidity and diversity that define the modern alpine experience.

One of the world’s leading ski destinations

La Plagne is made up of 11 interconnected villages, each with its own altitude, atmosphere and character — from the modern, high-altitude hubs of Aime 2000 and Belle Plagne to the more traditional hamlets of Montalbert, Montchavin and Champagny-en-Vanoise. This unique composition allows every visitor to find their rhythm: sport and performance at the top, family-friendly slopes at mid-altitude, and authentic Savoyard charm in the lower villages.

A vast and versatile ski playground

With over 135 marked runs, 77 lifts and more than 2,000 metres of vertical drop, La Plagne offers an exceptional variety of terrain. From wide blue runs to steep glacier descents, the possibilities seem endless. The Bellecôte Glacier is a true highlight, offering long, technical descents down to Montchavin-Les Coches. The resort also hosts the Olympic bobsleigh track, built for the 1992 Albertville Winter Games — a rare opportunity to experience an Olympic thrill firsthand.

A benchmark for family skiing

Awarded the Famille Plus Montagne label, La Plagne stands out for its safety, accessibility and range of family services. Beginner zones are intelligently distributed across the villages, ski schools (ESF and ESI) are among the best in France, and dedicated children’s clubs ensure a smooth, carefree experience. This blend of professionalism and warmth has made La Plagne a model of family skiing excellence.

For freeriders and adventure seekers

Beyond its groomed slopes, La Plagne is a paradise for freeriders and ski mountaineers. The Bellecôte Glacier, Les Verdons and Champagny sectors offer exceptional off-piste itineraries for experienced skiers, with routes dropping over 1,500 metres in altitude. Guided tours to Nancroix or through the Vanoise National Park combine wild beauty with technical challenge, while snowparks and freestyle areas cater to a younger, creative audience.

Innovation and sustainability at the core

Managed by the Compagnie des Alpes, La Plagne stands as a symbol of innovation and sustainable mountain development. The resort continuously upgrades its lift infrastructure to improve energy efficiency, deploys new-generation snowmaking systems that use up to 30% less water and power, and supports the “Montagne Verte” programme, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2037. This ongoing transformation reflects the resort’s commitment to balancing progress with environmental responsibility.

A true four-season destination

La Plagne is not just a winter paradise — it has become a four-season alpine destination. In summer, its vast mountain terrain opens up to hikers, mountain bikers and trail runners. Chairlifts remain open to access bike parks, panoramic routes and alpine pastures. Paragliding, via ferrata, climbing, spa experiences and Savoyard gastronomy add to its appeal, making La Plagne a lively year-round resort that thrives beyond the snow.

Accessibility and international reach

La Plagne is one of the most accessible high-altitude resorts in Europe. It lies less than 30 minutes from the Aime-La Plagne TGV station, directly connected to Paris, London (via Eurostar) and major European cities. Geneva Airport is just two hours away. With over 53,000 tourist beds, a vast range of accommodations and a modern transport network, La Plagne welcomes more than 2.5 million skier-days per season, consistently ranking among the top three most-visited ski resorts worldwide.

A model of balance and modernity

Despite its immense size, La Plagne retains a sense of human scale thanks to its clear layout, intuitive signage and well-distributed sectors. The resort has succeeded in combining industrial-scale performance with environmental sensitivity and authentic alpine character. Its continuous evolution — without losing its soul — makes La Plagne a living symbol of what the mountain of tomorrow can be: innovative, inclusive and deeply connected to its natural heritage.
