France | Región: Northern Alps

The ski resort of Valmorel, located near the resort of Saint Hugues / Les Egaux, is considered by many to be one of the most charming resorts in the French Alps. Beautiful wood and stone chalets in the purest Savoyard style make up the melancholic, well-kept resort at an altitude of 1400m. The ski area is linked to an adjoining ski area called St. François – Longchamp, which lacks the charm of Valmorel.

It is the largest resort in a large ski area known as the “Grand Domaine”, which also includes Combelouvière and St. François – Longchamp. An excellent resort for families and children, a large part of the area is made up of blue and red runs, which link the whole area together.

The Valmorel ski area

Sectors such as Beaudin and Col de la Madeleine are slopes located at higher altitudes in the resort, but are easy to ski down, offering beautiful panoramic views. So, with an average level of skiing, you can enjoy the whole area, to which you have access with your “Grand Domaine” ski pass.

It’s a great resort, aimed mainly at families, but with a few surprises in store for experts too, like the Lauzière black run, with great descents on pistes with considerable vertical drops and highly technical snowcrosses that are not very popular.

Valmorel ski resort commits to sustainable development

Situated near the Vanoise park, in the heart of the Tarentaise massif, Valmorel is an environmentally-friendly mountain resort. A pioneer in the field, Valmorel was the first French resort to include the notion of respect for the environment in the specifications for the creation of the site in 1976.

As a result, it is an example of ecology and sustainable development. As a logical consequence, it has been chosen as a pilot resort for the ‘Focons Verts’ project, set up by the Mountain Riders association.

Resorts will be awarded between 0 and 4 Green Tags based on their commitment to the following 8 themes: Governance, Transport, Energy, Development, Water, Waste, Social and Territorial.
