Meiringen-Hasliberg

Switzerland | Región: Bernese Oberland

In the heart of the Bernese Oberland, the Meiringen-Hasliberg resort offers the perfect combination of skiing, nature, and culture. Located above the Haslital valley and overlooking Lake Brienz, it is an ideal Swiss destination for those seeking varied slopes, an authentic alpine setting, and alternative activities for the whole family.

The resort’s great emblem is the Alpen Tower, a panoramic viewpoint located at an altitude of 2,250 meters, from which, on clear days, more than 400 peaks can be seen. From here you can see the Sustenhorn, the Wetterhorn massif and the silhouette of Lake Brienz, making up one of the most expansive and spectacular views in central Switzerland.

Meiringen-Hasliberg: a comfortable and easily accessible ski area

The Meiringen-Hasliberg ski area has 60 km of slopes located between 1,065 and 2,433 meters, served by 13 modern lifts. The slopes are wide, safe, and very smooth, ideal for families, beginners, and intermediate skiers.

The descents towards Reuti and Mägisalp are particularly popular due to their length and good preparation, with panoramic views throughout. The snow, which is generally dry and well preserved, remains in excellent condition throughout the season thanks to the altitude and orientation of the valley.

But one of the great attractions of Meiringen-Hasliberg is its commitment to family skiing. For example, the Skihäsliland, located in the Bidmi sector, is an area specially designed for children, with conveyor belts, safe areas, and educational activities run by the local snow sports school. Here, children learn through play, accompanied by specialized instructors.

Freestyle, fun, and night skiing

For those looking for a little more adrenaline, Balis Park offers modules, boxes, and jumps with different levels of difficulty, as well as a fun ski-/boardercross track. And if you still have energy left at the end of the day, on Friday evenings you can enjoy night skiing between Mägisalp and Reuti (from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.). The blue slopes are lit up and the atmosphere is unique, combining music, well-groomed snow, and a festive touch.

Beyond skiing: nature and culture

The Haslital valley offers endless activities when the weather is not so good or you simply feel like a different kind of day out and want to get to know the area:

  • The Aar Gorge (Aareschlucht) is an impressive 200-meter-deep gorge with footbridges and tunnels carved into the rock. It is one of the most visited places in central Switzerland and an unforgettable experience.
  • The Reichenbach Falls (Reichenbachfall), the final setting for Sherlock Holmes’ adventures, can be visited by historic funicular railway, and the Sherlock Holmes Museum in Meiringen completes the literary tour.
  • The Alpen Tower, open all year round, is the starting point for hiking trails to Käserstatt, Melchsee-Frutt, or Engstlenalp, with a connection to the Jochpass on the way to Engelberg.

Easy access without a car

Getting to Meiringen is very easy. From Bern or Lucerne, the regional train takes you directly to Meiringen station.

From there, take the cable car to Hasliberg Reuti and then the gondola lift Reuti → Bidmi → Mägisalp → Planplatten, which takes you to the high slopes and the Alpen Tower.

You can also get there from the Brünig Pass via the PostBus, which runs regularly to Reuti. This transport network makes Meiringen-Hasliberg one of the most convenient Swiss resorts to visit without a car.

Summer in Hasliberg: a true four-season destination

When the snow melts, Meiringen-Hasliberg transforms into a paradise for hiking and outdoor activities.

The family-friendly themed trails of the Muggestutz universe (the famous dwarf of the Haslital), excursions to alpine lakes, and the panoramic brunch at the Alpen Tower make the resort a perfect destination in summer as well.

Practical tips for getting the most out of your stay

  • Night skiing: on Fridays, plan your day to include night skiing at Mägisalp-Reuti; the slopes are impeccable and the atmosphere is lively.
  • Snowless or bad weather days: swap your skis for a visit to the Aareschlucht or the Sherlock Holmes Museum, both just a few minutes away.
  • With children: start with the intermediate areas (Reuti and Bidmi) and, when they feel more confident, head up to Mägisalp together; Skihäsliland is the best gateway for young skiers.
  • Unique views: head up to the Alpen Tower early; the first runs from there offer fresh snow and spectacular views of the Bernese Alps.
