Folgaria Lavarone, a ski resort rich in history
The Alpe Cimbra is a place rich in history: there are 7 large World War I forts and large trenches, Base Tuono the Cold War museum and Luserna with the Cimbri.
Folgaria is a very complete ski resort, which ranks among the best ski resorts in Italy for families: baby park and kindergarten on the slopes, family hotels and residences, many school camps for beginners and many kilometres of blue slopes for the whole family.
Alpe Cimbra offers one hundred kilometres of slopes of varying levels of difficulty for Alpine skiing, 80 km for Nordic skiing, and a snow park for those seeking more adrenaline! Folgaria & Lavarone is part of the Skirama Dolomiti ski area.
For those who want to explore all the slopes of the district, a ski pass is available for the 8 resorts that make it up. The Superskirama ski pass allows skiing on the 1150 kilometres of slopes of the Dolomiti Superski and Skirama Dolomiti. It offers skiers and snowboarders various possibilities and new sensations. Folgaria & Lavarone offers not only skiing but also various mountain sports (sledging, fat-biking, snowshoeing, skating…).
The many hours of sunshine make it a very pleasant ski resort. To discover the surroundings in an original way, a small train adapted to the weather conditions offers a connection between the centre of Folgaria and the village of Costa. Children and their carers will particularly appreciate this.
The Folgaria Lavarone ski resort is committed to sustainable development.
The Alpe Cimbra has for many years been awarded the Alpine Pearls label – for its commitment to slow tourism and sustainable mobility – and in 2024 received the prestigious international GSTC certification.
Unforgettable experiences in Folgaria Lavarone
Get ready for breathtaking views, lots of fun and adrenaline. Snow-biking is fantastic, especially if you have a fat-bike. Never heard of it? Then let us explain it to you. It’s a bike with wide, fat tyres (fat), designed for riding on snow or sand, and an electric motor that helps you pedal and cover more distance with less effort. Fantastic, …isn’t it?
It is said that we always leave the best for last. Before leaving Alpe Cimbra, a morning hike to Monte Maggio would be the best way to end your winter holiday. Monte Maggio is one of the most important peaks on the Alpe Cimbra. Its summit once marked the border between Italy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. On the summit of Mount Maggio, 1853 metres above sea level, there is an iron cross in memory of the Italian soldiers who died fighting there.

The course is flanked by a promenade leading to the famous Ecchen biotope.
The transhumance, scheduled for the end of June, marks the start of the mountain activity of the Il Salice Equestrian Centre. For three days, the centre’s members will cross the plains, along the banks of canals and riverbeds, in the hills and foothills of Vicenza, to arrive at the end of the third day at the Carbonare di Folgaria (Trento) headquarters. Skiing in Folgaria-Lavarone: the resort’s strengths
Folgaria-Lavarone is part of the Alpe Cimbra ski area, which covers 100 km of interconnected slopes spread across the towns of Folgaria, Lavarone, and Luserna. Just 30 km from Trento, this resort offers comfortable and varied skiing, ideal for families, beginners, and lovers of long, stress-free days. The ski area is located between 1,180 and 1,850 meters above sea level, with diverse orientations that ensure good snow throughout the season. Its gentle, panoramic terrain offers views of the Brenta Alps, Lake Garda, and the Po Valley on clear days.
100 km of connected slopes
The Ski Area Alpe Cimbra offers a network of 70 slopes connected by 30 modern and efficient lifts.
The slopes are carefully groomed every night and 95% covered by artificial snow, ensuring excellent conditions even in warm seasons.
Level distribution: 30% blue slopes: perfect for beginners or for enjoying carving without pressure. 60% red slopes: ideal for intermediate skiers. 10% black slopes: challenging but accessible, especially in Costa and Serrada.
Two resorts, one ski pass
- Folgaria: larger and livelier, with areas such as Fondo Grande, Fondo Piccolo, Serrada, and Costa.
- Lavarone: quieter and more natural, with wide slopes among fir forests and views of Lake Lavarone.
Both areas are linked by the same ski pass and free transport between bases.
An ideal resort for families
Folgaria-Lavarone is one of the most family-friendly resorts in Italy.
It has four Baby Parks, learning areas with conveyor belts, snow nurseries, and services tailored to children. Family ski passes and passes for beginners make learning to ski more accessible without compromising on the quality of the environment. The atmosphere is relaxed, without large crowds, and the ski lift staff are very attentive, which is characteristic of Trentino hospitality.
Snowpark and alternative skiing
The Snowpark Fondo Piccolo is the meeting point for freestylers, with jump lines, boxes, and rails. In addition, the area has several cross-country skiing circuits, including the Centro Fondo Millegrobbe, with more than 35 km of trails in a spectacular forest setting. Fans of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing will find multiple marked trails that pass through forests, historic World War I trenches, and panoramic viewpoints.
Culture, gastronomy, and wellness
Alpe Cimbra retains a strong cultural identity. In the villages of Folgaria and Lavarone, dialects of Cimbrian origin can still be heard, and traditional architecture blends with modern hotels and alpine spas. Gastronomy is a strong point: local cheeses such as Vezzena, artisan sausages, Trentino polenta, and Alto Adige wines pair perfectly with the cozy atmosphere of the mountain huts. After a day of skiing, many visitors choose to relax in the Costa or Lavarone wellness centers, with views of the snow-covered forests.
