Andermatt

The Andermatt ski resort lies at the foot of the Gemsstock, is the largest village in the Usern Valley and is a winter sports hotspot in the Lake Lucerne area. This resort is a perfect place to enjoy a family holiday in a beautiful part of the Swiss Alps.

The Andermatt ski resort

The cosy mountain village of Andermatt is located in a privileged spot in Switzerland, where the Gemsstock, almost 3,000 metres high, presides over the skyline of the Swiss Alps offering spectacular slopes and off-piste skiing for the more intrepid. With a sunny valley, the Nätschen is especially recommended for families who want to enjoy sun and snow in an environment of immeasurable beauty. Ski resort activities

A few hours on the Andermatt ice rink is always a great change from winter fun on the slopes. Andermatt’s ice rink invites you to practise pirouettes again this winter, to compete in hockey matches. An afternoon on the toboggan runs is an ideal alternative to skiing or snowboarding. You can go down the slopes at high speed! Another alternative is snowshoeing, ideal for beginners and those interested in the scenery of the Swiss Alps. Snowkiting is also an activity not to be missed for adrenaline junkies.

Sustainable development of the ski resort Andermatt

The future lies in sustainable tourism. At the meeting of the Swiss Tourism Federation (STV), professors from the University of St. Gallen defended the Andermatt mega-project. In their opinion, the project represents a great opportunity for Switzerland.

Thomas Bieger, Christian Laesser and Pietro Beritelli from the University of St. Gallen were invited to the CST assembly to discuss the future of the sector and sustainable development,

They argued that projects on the scale of Andermatt are an asset for the development of tourism in Switzerland.

Environmental experts ruled that the luxury “megaresort” project of Egyptian billionaire Samih Sawiris met the legal requirements.

FST President Franz Steinegger linked the positive developments in the sector to the political and economic opening to the outside world and bilateral agreements with the European Union (EU). He called on those responsible for the sector not to give priority to short-term, unilateral interests, but to promote dialogue between society, the economy and environmentalists.
