Les Brasses

France | Región: Northern Alps

Skiing in front of Mont Blanc is, for many, a dream that seems difficult to achieve. At the Les Brasses ski resort, you can easily make it a reality thanks to its good connections and competitive prices.

Les Brasses ski resort

Les Brasses ski resort is suitable for all levels of difficulty and slopes. Beginners and experienced skiers alike can immerse themselves in the pleasure of gliding freely down its snow-covered slopes.

Alpine skiing, freeriding, telemark skiing, snowboarding, or cross-country skiing—why choose when you can try everything? Equipped with modern lifts and extensive snowmaking capabilities, the Massif des Brasses is a little-known destination among the Spanish public, but it hides places of great beauty, far from the crowds during holiday periods.

The Massif des Brasses offers one of the most beautiful cross-country skiing areas in Haute-Savoie, both for its exceptional snow and the beauty of the landscape: the Plaine-Joux plateau.

Sustainable development at Les Brasses ski resort

Located at an altitude of 850 meters in the hills of Viuz-en-Sallaz, La Ferme de la Source is a farm covering around 4 hectares dedicated to the organic cultivation of vegetables and berries, as well as a vegetable garden, which supplies the bars and restaurants located near the resort.

Sensitive to the concept of environmental protection and sustainable development, the company relies on natural cultivation and generation techniques with a wide variety of crops.

It is certified according to the AB label (organic farming) and pays particular attention to the quality of its products, which are sold in seasonal baskets. They can be ordered directly from the farm or at farmers’ markets.

Skiing in Les Brasses: the resort’s strong points

Between Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva

Located in the department of Haute-Savoie, halfway between Geneva (45 min) and Chamonix (1 hr), the resort of Les Brasses stretches between 900 and 1,500 meters above sea level, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Mont Blanc, the Jura, and Lake Geneva. This privileged geographical location gives it a dual alpine and urban identity: it is an authentic mountain destination, yet easily accessible from French-speaking Switzerland and the Annecy metropolitan area.

A versatile and accessible ski area

The Les Brasses ski area offers 50 km of alpine slopes spread over 25 runs for all levels, connecting the Plaine-Jouxand Chaîne d’Or sectors. Beginners have access to large learning areas with gentle lifts, while more experienced skiers will find fast slopes, vertical drops of up to 600 meters, and off-piste areas with natural snow.

The wooded terrain of the Voirons massif creates a welcoming atmosphere sheltered from the wind, ideal for enjoying the snow with family or friends.

A family resort par excellence

Les Brasses is above all a family-friendly, local resort. Its peaceful atmosphere, affordable prices, and human scale make it a perfect choice for families from Haute-Savoie, Geneva, or the Pays de Gex. The French Ski School (ESF) has a highly regarded teaching team, and the play areas—sledding, snow tubing, and mini snow park—allow children to discover the snow in a safe and fun way.

The kingdom of Nordic skiing and snowshoeing

Beyond downhill skiing, Les Brasses is also a benchmark for cross-country skiing in the Lake Geneva region. The Nordic area offers 60 km of trails through forests, plateaus, and natural viewpoints, with exceptional views of Mont Blanc and the Swiss Alps. The variety of profiles—from family circuits to sports trails—makes this area very popular with cross-country skiers from Geneva and the Arve Valley.

In addition, the resort has several marked snowshoe trails that allow visitors to discover the wildlife and snowy landscapes of the Vallée Verte.

Four-season activities

In summer, Les Brasses is transformed into a natural paradise for hiking, mountain biking, and trail running. Alpine meadows and beech forests offer cool, shaded trails that are ideal for families and athletes alike. The resort also offers paragliding, electric mountain bike tours, and educational workshops on mountain flora and fauna. This versatility makes Les Brasses a lively mountain destination all year round.

A model of sustainable mountain tourism

Committed to ecological transition, the resort promotes energy efficiency projects, reduces the use of snowmaking, and encourages shared mobility. Its mid-mountain location allows it to develop a more sober and balanced model of tourism, which prioritizes respect for ecosystems and the participation of the local community. Producers and restaurateurs in the valley work closely with the resort to offer an authentic experience that is consistent with the environment.

Accessibility and hospitality

Les Brasses is strategically located near the Annecy–Geneva and Bonneville–Thonon-les-Bains axes, making it one of the most accessible resorts in the northern French Alps. It offers free parking, shuttle services from nearby villages, and a variety of accommodation options—chalets, gîtes, and tourist residences—mostly run by local families.

Limitations to consider

Like all mid-altitude resorts, Les Brasses is partially dependent on snowmaking, especially in the lower sectors. However, its northern exposure, humid microclimate, and high-quality slope maintenance ensure consistent skiing throughout the winter season.

A nearby, human, and luminous mountain

Les Brasses represents the ideal model of a sustainable local mountain: accessible, family-friendly, and committed to its territory. Its balance between sport, nature, and conviviality makes it a perfect alternative to the large Alpine resorts.

Here, skiing is experienced with simplicity and authenticity, against one of the most beautiful panoramas in the French Alps.
