France
Perched at an altitude of 600 metres in the heart of the French Alps, Brides-les-Bains is much more than just a mountain village. It is a spa resort with centuries of history which, thanks to the Olympe gondola lift, serves as the gateway to Les 3 Vallées, the world’s largest ski area.
Its authentic character, with all the charm typical of Savoyard villages, contrasts with the sheer scale of the ski area it provides access to, offering visitors a complete experience combining nature, sport and well-being.
The resort gained international recognition during the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics, when it hosted the figure skating events. Since then, Brides-les-Bains has successfully combined its spa tradition – its mineral waters are renowned for their therapeutic properties – with a first-class range of tourist facilities. Prices that are more affordable than in high-altitude resorts and a direct link to Méribel make it an increasingly popular choice for skiers from all over Europe.
The ski slopes at Brides-les-Bains
From Brides-les-Bains, access to the ski area is via the Olympe gondola lift, which takes skiers to Méribel—the central hub of Les 3 Vallées—in 25 minutes. From there, 600 km of slopes stretch out between 1,300 and 3,200 metres in altitude, served by 172 modern lifts.
The ski area has 318 marked runs: 21 green, 126 blue, 111 red and 30 black, catering for all ability levels. The Les 3 Vallées ski pass also provides access to Courchevel, Val Thorens, Les Menuires and Saint-Martin-de-Belleville.
The Brides-les-Bains ski resort is committed to sustainable development
Brides-les-Bains has made a firm commitment to sustainable tourism, working to preserve the natural, cultural and social resources of its region. The resort is situated on the edge of the Vanoise National Park – the oldest in France –, which reinforces its environmental responsibility. Its initiatives include promoting public transport, reducing waste and encouraging the use of local produce in restaurants. Thermal tourism itself is a low-impact form of tourism: it invites visitors to relax and connect with their surroundings in a mindful way.
Unforgettable experiences in Brides-les-Bains
The main attraction is the Grand Spa Thermal: its waters, rich in trace elements, are renowned for their benefits in treating rheumatic conditions and promoting general well-being, with massages, body wraps and fitness programmes on offer. Outside the spa, the resort offers snowshoeing, snowmobiling, dog sledding and paragliding. The casino provides entertainment in the evenings, and during the school holidays, activities are organised for families: ice sculpting, snow games and workshops for the little ones.
Where to stay in Brides-les-Bains
The Mercure Grand Hôtel des Thermes (4★) is the most iconic: directly connected to the spa, with a restaurant serving regional cuisine and access to treatments. The Hôtel Athéna stands out for its personalised service, and for families, the Résidences La Vanoise 1825 and Eureca are very popular options, with fully equipped apartments and childcare services.
Brides-les-Bains in summer
When there’s no snow, Brides-les-Bains transforms into a vibrant Alpine destination. Hiking is the star attraction, with trails for all abilities leading to high-mountain lakes and viewpoints overlooking the Vanoise. Cycling takes centre stage at the Gran Fondo Col de la Loze, a leading cycle race featuring routes ranging from 30 to 117 km. The Grand Spa Thermal remains open all year round, and the swimming pool, tennis courts and multi-activity hall round off the summer offering.
