Expansion of the area, cable car links to the valley and new buildings. These are the foundations for tourism development in the Alps over the next 15 years. At least, that is what emerges from an analysis of urban planning documents for the major areas of the Alps.

Since the Grenelle Environment Forum (2010), rural municipalities have been required to consider their development on a liveable area scale. The challenge is to ensure that the various sustainable development projects are consistent with each other.

In plain language: we must avoid creating business parks, residential areas, commercial areas and tourist areas in each municipality, all competing with each other. Since 2017, the development of Alpine valleys must be considered holistically rather than individually. The Territorial Coherence Plan (SCOT) must, in particular, enable the establishment of a territorial project that
