Nevis Range is a large ski resort situated in the Highlands of Scotland near Fort Williams. This historical settlement is considered the ‘outdoor capital of UK’, famous for outdoor sports such as hiking, rock climbing and also for Scottish culture. It stands at the foot of the highest mountain of Britain, Ben Nevis which dominates the landscape. The views are breathtaking, in winter as well as in summer.

Down the foggy glens, the lakes give the scenery a misty atmosphere, and the ancient myths remain in the regional culture. Many old castles stand out in this scenery, bringing back the history of the mountainous area.

The three summits of Nevis Range

Nevis Range ski resort is surrounded by the three summits of Aonach Mor (1221 ft), Carn Mor Dearg (4012 ft) and Carn Dearg Meadhonach (3890 ft). The centre is adapted to all types of skiers and gives access to every type a slope, a terrain park and even off-piste areas.

First, beginners can train on the lower part of the mountain. It is not too steep with mainly blue and green slopes. More experienced skiers can go down the steeper slopes, black and red on the upper part of the mountain. The speciality of the resort are the Black Corries an off-piste area still part of the centre.

More experienced skiers can go down the routes of Nevis Range, within the patrolled area and then take the Bravehart chairlift to go back to the main station. You can therefore ski on the Coire Dubh, an off-piste bowl within the ski area. Do not hesitate to look on Youtube for videos of this unique skiing site.

Because this mountain side is apart from the rest of the resort, you can expect different skiing conditions but be careful because the quality of the snow can change very quickly. However, skiing in this area is at your own risk even though it remains in the Patrol area.

How to get to the centre?

The only Gondola of Scotland can take you from the car park to the ski resort. It is open all year long and is an activity by itself, allowing tourists to go up the mountain to hike or admire the spectacular view of the Highlands of Scotland. And, you will not be bored after skiing: In the evening tourists can visit Fort William and even experience ice climbing at the world’s biggest indoor ice climbing wall.

Sustainable development of the Nevis Range ski resort

By selling the hydroelectric plant, Nevis Range ski resort will be able to re-invest in a number of key projects over the year ahead.

These will enable Nevis Range to achieve much greater year-round sustainability, leading to more year-round employment in the mountain resort.

In addition, they will make Nevis Range and Fort William a highly desirable destination for residents and visitors alike.

The resort remains fully committed to sourcing electricity from the hydroelectric grid to operate many of its facilities, such as the gondola, electric vehicle charging points and the base station. Nevis Range is also dedicated to using renewable energy sources where possible throughout its operations.

Experience a stroll over the Aonach Mòr mountain

The Nevis Range Mountain Gondola is the only cable car of its kind in Britain and rises to a height of 650m.

It was originally built on the north face of Aonach Mòr, the eighth highest mountain in Britain, to carry skiers to the slopes.

The Gondola has become an astonishing tourist attraction, enabling visitors to enjoy the ride and soak up the magnificent views and clean mountain air.

The Mountain Gondola is also used extensively as a shortcut by alpinists to access the many winter climbing routes of Aonach Mòr and by trekkers to access the summer routes.
