Fernie Alpine ski resort is one of the highest ski resorts of Alberta, Canada and well-known for its heavy snow falls in winter. To access the station take the Crowsnest highway toward Pincher Creek, Fort Macleod and Calgary and take the exit at Fernie Ski Hill Road. Catering and hotel services are provided directly on the station which feature 9 restaurants directly in the resort.

The resort, located on the Lizard Range is one of the biggest one of the region, it features slopes on 5 different bowls, the Timber Bowl and Currie Bowl with runs for all level of skiers through the forest, the Lizard Bowl designed for beginners, the Cedar Bowl and the Siberia Bowl with the hardest slopes and the 5 kilometers long run, the Falling star.

There is a beginner area on the lower part of the mountain and the Minimoose Conveyor on the bottom part of the station is ideal for a first time skiing.

If the resort provides all sorts of facilities, it is also one of the best regarding the quality of the snow. Due to the low temperature level and the heavy snow fall, it is the place to be for snow lovers and skiers that prefer powder snow. In a season the station receives up to 11 meters of snow!

This resort is located in an old mining area near the town of Fernie in the Rockies. After-ski activities are organised, and this village is not lacking in charm, as it is full of legends linked to the arrival of William Fernie, the gold prospector who became interested in this area.

He found coal there after enlisting the help of the indigenous people, the only inhabitants of the area in the 1890s. But he was cursed by the local tribe after he refused to marry the chief’s daughter despite his promise.

Fernie is now an attractive tourist town, named ‘the coolest town in North America’ by Rolling Stone Magazine.

Environmental preservation of the mountain is a key priority for the Fernie ski resort.

LONG-TERM MEASURES ARE PUT IN PLACE TO LIMIT THE IMPACT OF THE SKI RESORT ON THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT.

For instance, the slopes are only kept open when sufficient snow is available and waste is appropriately sorted in the ski resort. The only drawback is that some lifts still run on diesel.
