The Schladming Dachstein ski resort is located in Austria, in the Steiermark region. It is a large resort made up of 4 mountains, able to compete with major international destinations. Its long slopes among beautiful forests are ideal for intermediate skiers. In its domain we find the beautiful village of Schladming, of an important size and with many attractions besides skiing.

Incidentally, Schladming-Dachstein is one of Austria’s most renowned ski resorts, located in the Styria region. It is especially famous for being part of the Ski Amadé, one of Europe’s largest ski areas, and for its impressive combination of modern infrastructure and alpine scenery.

The Schladming dachstein ski area

Most of the slopes of this resort are very well oriented on the north side of the valley, almost entirely in the middle of beautiful spruce forests. From Schladming a gondola lift takes you to the Planai mountain, from where you can connect to the Hauser Kaibling mountain by altitude and across the valley to the Hochwurzen and Reiteralm mountains. Also, on the other side of the valley, there are many ski lifts scattered around, mostly designed for beginners and access to the Dachstein Gletscher glacier and its incredible views.

Each of the mountains is a resort in its own right, with many attractive pistes, turn-offs, forest variants and ski lifts giving access to alternative areas. In addition, at both ends of the 4 connected mountains there are two more mountains of acceptable size and similar characteristics, but which are not connected to the main circuit, namely Fageralm and Galsterbergalm.

What are the ski slopes of Schladming like?

Schladming is a large resort with a minimum altitude of 728 metres and a maximum altitude of 2,015 metres. It has 25 lifts (8 chairlifts and 15 surface lifts) offering skiers an incredible 1,287 metres of vertical descent. Schladming has 35 pistes with a total length of 123 skiable kilometres (46 km blue pistes, 68 km red pistes and 9 km black pistes).

• Beginner slopes: The areas around Hauser Kaibling and Planai are highly recommended for beginners and families. The width of the slopes and the quality of the snow make them ideal for those who are learning or looking for relaxed skiing.
• Intermediate runs: Intermediate skiers will appreciate the long and wide red runs, perfect for carving. Planai Westis a favourite for its length and spectacular scenery.
• Advanced runs: For the more experienced skiers, Schladming offers technical runs such as the FIS run on Planai, which hosts the famous Alpine Ski World Cup night competition.

As mentioned above, Schladming is part of the Skiverbund Amade area, which includes Reiteralm, Amade, Hochkönig, Großarl and Gastein. It is best suited to intermediate skiers and snowboarders, with some beginner terrain, but of little interest to advanced skiers. All slopes in Schladming are covered with artificial snow.

By the way, the excellent gastronomic offer in Schladming is enormous, but we recommend you to visit the alpine hutsscattered all over the ski area. The Schafalm Hut in Planai and the Gustostadl in Reiteralm are two highly recommended, where you can enjoy traditional Austrian dishes such as Kaiserschmarrn or Schnitzel, accompanied by breathtaking views.

Ski resort activities

Away from the slopes, away from skiing and snowboarding, the region shows its quieter but active side and offers many ways to explore the snowy landscape. Cross-country skiing over 220 kilometres in the cross-country paradise of Ramsau am Dachstein, horse-drawn sleigh rides, ski tours – you can even visit a frozen cave! One thing is for sure: a winter full of possibilities awaits you.

Those who enjoy tobogganing during the day will be delighted with the night tobogganing. Especially on the Hochwurzen toboggan run, which with a length of 7 kilometres is one of the longest toboggan runs in the Alps.

You can also experience snowshoeing in the Styrian region of Schladming-Dachstein in its original form. There are countless, immaculate snowshoe trails in various degrees of difficulty available.

One thing that never happens in Schladming-Dachstein is boredom.

They offer you a unique experience from the largest rope sliding installation in the Alps. The Stoderzinken zip lineplunges down into the valley at a maximum speed of up to 115 kilometres per hour! In our region, the adrenaline rush is not to be missed.

Another experience not to be missed is the Rittisberg, a curved roller coaster track that winds through the forest. Suspended in a steel tube, you float almost noiselessly between the metre-high treetops through the forest. The flying experience extends to more than 430 metres! Alos, you have to visit the snow Ice palace!
