The Puyvalador ski resort is committed to sustainable development
Puyvalador places the preservation of its natural environment at the heart of its vision for mountain tourism. The municipality has implemented a Local Urban Development Plan (PLU) based on a Sustainable Development and Land Use Plan (PADD). This document defines the main guidelines for urban planning, soft mobility and space management, in order to ensure balanced development that respects local resources.
Within this framework, the resort strives to limit land artificialisation, preserve local biodiversity and promote sensible construction that is integrated into the landscape. It also supports projects that promote the circular economy, in particular by encouraging short supply chains for catering and maintenance on the estate.
With a policy focused on tourism on a human scale, Puyvalador shows that it is possible to combine the pleasures of skiing with a commitment to nature, while preserving the authentic identity of the Capcir valley.

Skiing in Puyvalador: the resort’s strong points
Located in the heart of the Capcir, in the Eastern Pyrenees, Puyvalador is a resort that embodies the most authentic and natural spirit of Pyrenean skiing. Its altitude—between 1,700 and 2,400 meters—and its northern orientation give it excellent snow quality, with regular descents and generally stable weather. Recently reopened after several years of closure, the resort has opted for a local and sustainable management model, prioritizing the balance between nature, accessibility, and enjoyment of the environment.
The Puyvalador ski area offers 35 kilometers of slopes, distributed across 17 runs of all levels: green and blue for beginners, red for intermediate skiers, and black for the most experienced. This diversity is divided into three main sectors: La Calmazeille, ideal for families; Artigues, with wide, sunny slopes; and Le Pla del Mir, which has the most technical and challenging slopes. Thanks to its medium size and constant altitude, the area retains a peaceful atmosphere, without crowds, allowing for smooth skiing even in the high season.
One of the main attractions of Puyvalador is its preserved natural environment. Located a few kilometers from Lake Puyvalador, the resort offers breathtaking views of the pine forests and peaks of Capcir. Skiing here is combined with contemplation: the descents pass through forest clearings and wide meadows that convey the feeling of freedom and authenticity that many skiers seek. In addition, its cold, dry microclimate—typical of the Capcir plateau—allows for quality snow to be maintained well into March, even in irregular seasons.
Puyvalador is also committed to diversifying experiences. In addition to downhill skiing, it offers marked trails for snowshoeing, sledding areas, Nordic activities, and ski touring circuits for those who want to discover the environment at a leisurely pace. Its recent management is oriented towards a sustainable model, with renewable energy, local restaurants, and the promotion of local products. This commitment makes it a pioneer in the responsible mountain approach in the eastern Pyrenees.
Useful tip for enjoying Puyvalador to the fullest
Start your day in the Artigues sector, where the wide, sunny slopes allow you to warm up your legs and enjoy open views over the Capcir. Mid-morning, head to Le Pla del Mir, with more technical slopes and firmer snow thanks to its north-facing orientation. If you are traveling with children or beginners, the lower area of La Calmazeille offers conveyor belts and safe learning slopes at the foot of the lifts. On clear days, don’t miss the natural viewpoint overlooking Lake Puyvalador: a panoramic spot that sums up the essence of this resort—serenity, beauty, and the feeling of being in a living, authentic mountain.
