Skiing in Nendaz: the resort’s strengths
In the heart of the Swiss Valais, on the sunny plateau overlooking the Rhône Valley, lies Nendaz, a resort that combines the hospitality of an alpine village with direct access to one of the largest ski areas in the world: the 4 Vallées. This connection, linking Nendaz with Verbier, Veysonnaz, Thyon, and La Tzoumaz, opens the door to more than 400 kilometers of slopes, with spectacular descents, guaranteed snow, and a variety of terrain suitable for all levels.
The resort stretches between 1,400 and 3,330 meters above sea level, reaching its highest point at Mont Fort, where you can enjoy a unique panoramic view of the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc, and more than twenty peaks over 4,000 meters high. This point, accessible by cable car from Nendaz, is one of the most memorable experiences in the domain: a perfect blend of skiing and alpine contemplation.
Nendaz is a destination that has managed to maintain its traditional Swiss village spirit while evolving with modern and efficient infrastructure.
Its architecture, based on wooden and stone chalets, creates a cozy and authentic atmosphere, very different from that of purely tourist resorts. In the center, shops, restaurants, and spas offer a relaxed atmosphere that invites you to stay beyond skiing. The local Nendaz ski area has wide, well-oriented slopes, ideal for families and intermediate skiers.
Beginners will find the Tracouet sector a perfect place to learn, with a frozen lake, easy slopes, and a ski school with multilingual instructors. From there, more experienced skiers can link up with the higher areas of Siviez and Plan du Fou, where the slopes become more challenging and the views more breathtaking.
Freeride enthusiasts will find a discreet paradise in Nendaz. Areas such as Chassoure, Plan du Fou, and Mont-Fortoffer world-class off-piste descents, frequented by riders seeking deep snow and challenging slopes. It’s no surprise that the resort hosts one of the Freeride World Tour competitions every year, confirming its reputation among expert skiers.
Beyond skiing, Nendaz is also a destination for wellness and four-season sports. In winter, you can enjoy snowshoeing trails, scenic walks, and spa sessions with views of the valley. In summer, the spotlight is on hiking trails and the famous bisses, ancient irrigation channels converted into waterways that wind through forests and alpine meadows.
Access to the resort is easy. Nendaz is only a 20-minute drive from Sion, the capital of Valais, and is connected by road and public transport from Geneva or Lausanne. Its central location, sunny orientation, and quality infrastructure make it one of the best options in southwestern Switzerland for enjoying a complete stay, whether for a week-long ski vacation or a short getaway.
Visitors to Nendaz discover a balance that is hard to match: the tranquility of a Swiss village with the dynamism of a large international resort. It is a resort where you can ski in style, relax in peace and be won over by the genuine hospitality of the Valais Alps.
