From the center a cable car gives direct access to Rochebrune or Mont d´Arbois (via cable car). To access Le Jaillet you have to use the ski bus. You have to be careful with the selection of accommodation because some hotels are neither in the center nor at the foot of the slopes.

In many ways it looks more like a Swiss or Austrian station than a French one and, perhaps for this reason, it is frequented by the Jet Set. Megève is a winter sports resort with a huge ski area, as the areas of Megeve, St. Gervais, St. Nicolas and Combloux are linked with beautiful paths between pine forests forming the Mont Blanc Evasion area with ski pass ” Skipass Mont Blanc “that allows you to ski on 700 km of slopes in the Mont Blanc region such as Chamonix and Argentiere.

Skiing in Megève is an intimate and unique experience which starts at the heart of the village to finish on summits. The skiing area is particularly adapted for family skiing and your children will not forget to remind you that there are snowparks for practising freestyle skiing. Freeride enthusiasts will enjoy the different virgin areas. 3 uplands are directly accessible from village : Mont d’Arbois/Princesse, Rochebrune/Cote 2000 and Jaillet.

Skiing in Megève: the resort’s strong points

Megève is one of those iconic resorts in the French Alps whose reputation combines historic elegance with extensive skiing. As part of the vast Évasion Mont-Blanc ski area, Megève offers a skiing experience that goes beyond simple downhill skiing: it offers a complete mountain ecosystem, with monumental landscapes, smart geographical connections, and high-end tourist facilities.

The Megève ski area covers altitudes ranging from approximately 1,113 to 2,350 meters, giving it a significant vertical drop for long and varied descents. As part of the Évasion Mont-Blanc ski area, Megève offers dozens of kilometers of slopes and is part of a larger network totaling more than 400 km of slopes served by nearly 110 ski lifts. This vastness allows skiers to explore multiple slopes, from snow-covered forests to open alpine pastures, with privileged views of the Mont Blanc massif.

One of Megève’s strengths is its rich internal geography. The domain is divided between three large mountains: Mont d’Arbois, Mont Joly / Rochebrune, and the Le Jaillet / Rochebrune sector. In Mont d’Arbois, for example, gentle slopes converge between forests and meadows, as well as wider intermediate trails that allow for gliding with wide panoramic views. Rochebrune and the Jaillet sector offer more technical environments and exits that connect to other parts of the overall domain.

The diversity of slopes is another important asset. Megève combines dozens of green, blue, red, and black slopes, distributed in such a way that skiers can progress without leaving the domain or occasionally jump to greater challenges. Intermediate slopes make up a large part of the offering, but the more demanding slopes allow you to test your technique without losing continuity in the whole.

The territorial connection is a strategic advantage for Megève. It is not isolated: it is part of the larger Évasion Mont-Blanc ski area, which includes resorts such as Saint-Gervais, Les Contamines, Saint-Nicolas-de-Véroce, Combloux, La Giettaz, among others. Thanks to this connection, skiers can access multiple valleys and extensions of the ski area without repeating the same trails, greatly increasing the potential for exploration.

Beyond simple alpine skiing, Megève also shines for its complementary offerings. It has an elegant mountain atmosphere: chalets, high-altitude restaurants, a well-maintained landscape, and tourist services worthy of a renowned resort. This combination attracts both those seeking performance on the snow and those who want a complete trip, with gastronomy, alpine architecture, and comfort.

However, precisely because of its location and intermediate altitude, Megève faces certain challenges, especially in terms of maintaining snow cover in low seasons. The resort also relies on artificial snow in several areas to ensure continuity throughout the season. Furthermore, although many slopes offer favorable exposure, some high altitudes or more exposed areas have to be managed carefully to ensure quality.
