Skiing in Les Deux Alpes: the resort’s strong points
A French skiing legend
Located in the department of Isère, in the heart of the Écrins massif, Les Deux Alpes (1,650-3,568 m) is one of Europe’s most renowned resorts and an international benchmark for high-altitude skiing. Founded in 1946, it has built its reputation on three pillars: an exceptional ski area, guaranteed snow all year round and a vibrant sporting identity.
Its high-altitude ski area, accessible by ski lifts, makes it one of the highest resorts in Europe.
An impressive and varied ski area
The Les Deux Alpes ski area offers 200 km of perfectly connected slopes and a continuous vertical drop of over 2,300 meters, from the Mont-de-Lans Glacier (3,568 m) to the village of Mont-de-Lans (1,280 m).
This uninterrupted descent is one of the longest on the planet, with a wide variety of terrain.
Wide blue runs at the top, ideal for carving, technical areas in the Bellecombes sector, and more forest descents in Vallée Blanche and Les Demoiselles.
Its northern orientation and altitude guarantee exceptional snow quality throughout the season, even in mild springs.
A sporty and modern resort
Les Deux Alpes is a resort with a young and sporty soul. Its snowpark, located at 2,600 m, is one of the most prestigious in Europe and hosts the “2 Alpes Freestyle Tour” every summer.
It has halfpipes, big air, rails, and progressive lines for all levels, managed by the Shapers Crew team, an international reference in freestyle.
In addition, its wide range of schools, clubs, and competitions attracts athletes, training teams, and professional riders every year.
Tradition and modernity in perfect harmony
The village of Les Deux Alpes combines traditional chalet architecture with modern hotels, tourist residences, and high-end restaurants.
Despite its international fame, the resort maintains a welcoming and friendly atmosphere, with a lively but balanced après-ski scene: bars, terraces, open-air concerts, and nighttime activities that preserve the sporting spirit of the destination.
Guaranteed snow and cutting-edge technology
The Les Deux Alpes Glacier is the real treasure of the domain. Covering more than 90 skiable hectares, it guarantees snow from November to early August.
In recent years, the resort has invested more than €30 million in modernization, with new high-capacity lifts, optimized snowmaking, and advanced energy management systems.
The Jandri Express 3, inaugurated in 2024 at a fantastic event we had the pleasure of attending, allows you to reach the summit in 15 minutes with 40% less energy consumption than the previous generation.
A model of sustainability in the high mountains
Les Deux Alpes is part of the SATA Group, which also manages Alpe d’Huez and La Grave, and has launched an ambitious environmental plan with measurable objectives: Carbon neutrality by 2037. 100% renewable energy for all ski lifts. A 75% reduction in CO₂ emissions from machinery through the use of HVO fuels. Shared mobility projects and ecological restoration of alpine areas. Its commitment to sustainability positions it as one of the most advanced resorts in Europe in terms of environmental management.
Activities all year round
Les Deux Alpes is a true four-season resort. In summer, the glacier remains open for training and freestyle skiing, while the rest of the domain is transformed into a paradise for mountain biking, hiking, and paragliding. The resort hosts international events such as the Mountain of Hell, one of the most extreme downhill mountain bike races in the world, and the 2 Alpes Outdoor Festival.
Accessibility and hospitality
Les Deux Alpes is 1 hour and 30 minutes from Grenoble and less than 2 hours from Lyon-Saint-Exupéry airport. Access by road is easy and scenic, crossing the Romanche valley. There is a wide range of accommodation on offer: luxury chalets, family hotels, residences, and apartments at the foot of the slopes.
