Located in a Natura 2000 protected area, the Gemeindealpe Mitterbach, along with our two chairlifts, the “Bodenbauer-Express” and “Gipfelbahn,” safeguards Europe’s natural habitats as outlined by the Birds and Habitats Directives. This area is home to the black grouse, a protected species, whose population is monitored annually by the nature conservation authority.During the mating and breeding season in spring, all facilities on the Mitterbach Gemeindealpe are therefore closed for at least six weeks. Sporting activities on the Gemeindealpe, such as paragliding, are also not possible from the beginning of April to mid-May for the benefit of the black grouse.

Every year during the winter season, they ensure that operations are adapted to the weather conditions to guarantee the most cost-efficient functioning of the cable car and snowmaking system. This means, for example, that they do not make snow during extremely warm temperatures or, if necessary, keep the lift closed in bad weather.

Gemeindealpe Mitterbach resort activities

Beyond skiing and snowboarding, the resort offers a variety of winter activities to keep everyone entertained. Try tobogganing on a specially prepared 4.6 km track that winds down the mountain. Winter hiking trails provide a peaceful escape into the snowy landscape, while snowshoe tours let you explore deeper into the wilderness.
