The Chiomonte Frais ski resort is located in the Susa Valley (Val di Susa – Italy), just 68 kilometers from Turin International Airport.
The ski area offers 25 km of slopes and a dream environment for all mountain and nature lovers. The slopes are suitable for beginners, but also advanced skiers and freestylers.
The resort is comprised of 3 blue slopes for beginners, 5 red slopes of medium difficulty and 1 black track. Inside the resort you can find great amenities to enjoy apres-ski such as bars, restaurants and of course a pizzeria, among others.
The Chiomonte Frais ski resort is an ideal place for a family vacation with great hotels. Located at the foot of the peaks of Punta Mezdì and Ciantiplagna (2,850 m), the ski area receives significant snowfall throughout the winter. This leaves high levels of snow in Chiamonte-Frais, ideal for an enjoyable ski. Therefore, this resort is an example of what a small ski resort can achieve.

Skiing in Chiomonte – Frais: the resort’s strong points
Located at an altitude of 1,500 meters, Chiomonte – Frais is one of the most traditional resorts in Piedmont. Founded in the 1960s, it has been a meeting place for Turin’s weekend ski enthusiasts for decades. It is quick and easy to get to, just an hour’s drive from Turin, making it one of the closest resorts to a major Italian city. The landscape is typically alpine: coniferous forests, views of Mount Chaberton, and an atmosphere that combines authenticity and tranquility.
A charming mountain resort
Frais offers a modest but very complete ski area, with 22 kilometers of slopes distributed between 1,500 and 2,000 meters of altitude. The terrain is divided into a dozen well-marked slopes: wide, natural, and very well maintained. The descents are varied and enjoyable, ideal for families, beginners, and intermediate skiers. Blue and red slopes predominate, although there are also some challenging black slopes in the upper part of the resort.
A family-friendly and accessible atmosphere
One of the great virtues of Frais is its peaceful and welcoming atmosphere. There are no crowds, the prices are reasonable, and the service is friendly. It is the perfect resort for learning to ski or enjoying a relaxed day without the pressure of the larger resorts. The Frais ski school has a long tradition of teaching and an excellent reputation in the Val di Susa.
Snow and natural environment
Thanks to its northern orientation and the protection of the surrounding forests, Frais retains light, stable snow for much of the winter. Snowmaking machines cover the main slopes, ensuring optimal conditions even in seasons with low precipitation. The quiet and unspoiled natural environment also invites you to enjoy moderate off-piste skiing or snowshoeing.
Tradition, authenticity, and hospitality
Frais retains the essence of skiing in the 1970s: wooden refuges, home cooking, and an unpretentious atmosphere. Small mountain restaurants offer typical Piedmontese dishes such as polenta concia, gnocchi al formaggio, and bagna càuda. The atmosphere is warm, simple, and deeply local: here you ski, eat, and chat as if in a refuge of friends.
Accessibility from Turin
Its proximity to Turin is one of its greatest attractions. From the Piedmontese capital, it takes about an hour to reach Frais via the Susa Valley road. The car park is next to the ski lifts and the infrastructure, although simple, is efficient and functional. This accessibility makes Frais a perfect choice for weekend getaways or for families looking for snow close to home.
