Skiing in Cervinia: the resort’s strong points
Cervinia is located at an altitude of 2,050 meters, at the head of the Valtournenche valley in the Aosta Valley.
Since its creation in the 1930s, the resort has become synonymous with high-altitude skiing, guaranteed snow, and spectacular views.
The Matterhorn dominates the landscape at 4,478 meters, casting its unmistakable silhouette over the slopes that connect Italy and Switzerland.
Here, skiing is synonymous with space, continuity, and freedom. The slopes seem endless, and the snow, always dry and abundant, remains in optimal condition well into spring.
A huge ski area with international connections
Cervinia is part of the international Matterhorn Ski Paradise area, shared with Zermatt (Switzerland) and Valtournenche (Italy).
The complex has a total of 360 kilometers of slopes, with altitudes ranging from 1,524 to 3,883 meters—one of the highest skiable altitudes in Europe.
This union between Italy and Switzerland allows for epic days: leave Cervinia in the morning, have lunch in Zermatt, and return skiing at sunset.
High-altitude skiing and guaranteed snow
The resort offers snow practically all year round, thanks to the Plateau Rosa glacier, where skiing is possible even in summer.
The north-facing orientation and altitude guarantee exceptional snow cover from November to May.
The wide, long slopes are ideal for carving and speed: some runs are over 12 km long without interruption.
Iconic slopes
Among its most famous runs are:
- Ventina: one of the longest slopes in the world, stretching over 11 km from Plateau Rosa to Cervinia.
- Cieloalto: technical and fast, with spectacular views of the Monte Rosa massif.
- Pancheron: perfect for intermediate skiers looking for wide turns and regular slopes.
Each sector combines steep slopes and unique panoramas, with firm, dry snow that invites you to enjoy every turn.
Freeriding and spring skiing
Cervinia is also a leading destination for freeriding, with natural itineraries to Valtournenche or Schwarzsee, accessible with a guide and safety equipment.
In spring, the high slopes retain exceptional quality, and the contrast between snow, sun, and silence creates a unique atmosphere.
Valdostan cuisine and hospitality
The gastronomic offer combines the traditional cuisine of the Aosta Valley with refined Alpine hospitality.
High-altitude terraces serve typical dishes such as polenta concia, melted fontina cheese, and barley and chestnut soup, accompanied by local wines such as Fumin or Petite Arvine.
The atmosphere is international, but the spirit remains Valdostan: warm, authentic, and hospitable.
The village, which is completely pedestrianized, offers lively yet elegant hotels, shops, and après-ski venues.
Infrastructure and accessibility
The resort has 19 modern ski lifts and a high transport capacity, allowing you to ski without long waits even in high season.
Cervinia is well connected by road to Turin, Milan, and Aosta, and has regular bus services and parking at the foot of the slopes.
Commitment to sustainability
In recent years, the resort has strengthened its environmental strategy: improving energy efficiency in ski lifts, rational water management for snowmaking, and cross-border agreements for glacier protection.
The common goal with Zermatt is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035 through the use of renewable energy and electric mountain mobility systems.
