Cerro Catedral ski resort
At 1.030 meters over sea level, Catedral owns its name to its gothic church-looking peaks. 60 slopes for every skill level spread across 600 hectares of total surface that reach 2000 meters height at top.
Ski resort Catedral also offers the chance to practice backcountry skiing, as well as freestyle and snowboarding on its recently installed snow park.
This ski resort hosts some of the most important ski competitions around the world. It also offers an advanced snow making system that covers up to 10 hectares.
Background of the Cerro Catedral ski resort
At the beginning of the 1940s, with the National Parks Administration fully involved in the tourist development of Bariloche, the name of Antonio Lynch, an active sports leader who was then president of the Argentine Ski Club, began to be heard loudly.
He also promoted the creation of the Argentine Ski and Mountaineering Federation and played a key role in the birth of the winter sports centre in Cerro Catedral, which today bears his name.
He is mentioned again and again on official stationery, but few today remember his work that contributed to establish Catedral as the main skiing reference in Bariloche and in the whole continent.
Sustainable development of the Cerro Catedral ski resort
Today the mountain is on the verge of a new investment project that should improve services on the mountain and strengthen its attractiveness as a winter resort, in line with Antonio Lynch’s plans and the needs of Bariloche as a whole.
The municipality of Bariloche made this aspiration its own, and in the grounds of the ordinance it stated
the need for Cerro Catedral to be modernised in order to achieve sustainable development,
with the aim of keeping it at the forefront of all ski resorts and placing it on a clearly competitive level.
