To access the station from Ottawa (100km) , take the Trans-Canada Highway and the Calabogie Route. You can then park your car at the bottom of the station where you have direct access to the 3 chair lifts and the main features. The resort is located on the Dicksons Mountain, it is quite low compared to the western ski stations, at only 150-380 meters above the sea level ; but the resort is well equipped in snow cannons. In fact, it has 60 snow cannons and uses 2 types of machines that make snow, air guns and fan guns.
The resort features 2 chairlifts and a magic carpet that gives access to a variety of slopes for all level of skiers. The magic carpet is situated at the bottom on the station, beginners can take a few lessons before going down the steeper slopes on the upper part of the mountain.
The two chairlifts the Solar Quad and the Lakeview Quad take you directly up to the top of the mountain for you to enjoy a long run down the hill and through the forest. Besides skiing, the station has developed 2 other snow activities, the Manitou Hiking and Snowshoeing Trails. They surround the mountain and allow you to walk all around the hill enjoying the scenery and the peace of the forest and the untouched fresh snow. There are also breath-taking cross country trails which give you access to a larger part of the mountain and to hidden immaculate slopes.
Sustainable development of the Calabogie Peaks ski resort
The ski resort of Calabogie Peak uses the water of the Calabogie Lake
to produce the artificial snow, which is not very different from natural snow, it only has a higher water volume,
which is a much efficient option and environmentally friendly option to produce snow.
This in turn, will prolong the snow season for those loyal fans of the white powdery mountains.
Unforgettable experiences in Calabogie Peaks
Adaptive Ski Program with people with reduced mobility
The Adaptive Ski Program at Calabogie was founded in 2003. As part of the National Capital Division of Canadian Adaptive Snowsports (CADS), it is pleased to offer people with limited mobility the possibility to experience the fundamentals of downhill skiing.
As part of Calabogie’s “Weekday School Program”, approximately 20 CADS-certified volunteer ski instructors, supported by 40-50 trained volunteers, offer a Sunday morning and afternoon ski program to both children and adults with disabilities.
If you have a child who has learned the essentials of skiing and is eager to learn how to ski all over the mountain, including bumps and terrain park features, Freestyle skiing is a good option and there is probably a program at the right level for your youngster.
A typical freestyle skier is generally a natural risk-taker and while every risk is carefully calculated and under the guidance of qualified instructors, the risks involved are expected to be within their comfort zone.
