Aspen Snowmass Ski Resort is located in Pitkin County in western Colorado and is comprised of four mountains: Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Snowmass. In the Aspen Snowmass resort is a domain formed by 4 areas, at an altitude of 3,813 meters and with a drop of 1,343 meters. The resort has a total of 2,150 hectares of skiable area with 329 slopes, 509 kilometers and 42 lifts. Each of the areas justifies a vacation, you can explore all four in depth (“Experience The Power of Four”) and not repeat any ski slope.

The resort is committed to using 100% renewable energy, reducing its carbon emissions and implementing responsible waste management practices, including reducing waste sent to landfills. In addition, they promote sustainable transportation policies, such as the use of ski buses that connect the four mountains free of charge. On the other hand, it is worth mentioning that the Aspen Snowmass resort has managed to obtain energy by recycling methane.

As you know, methane is a biogas that comes from the decomposition of garbage, animal excrement, etc.. It is composed of CO2 and other noxious and corrosive gases.

The three megawatts of baseload power generated by the station’s project has produced as much power as Aspen Skiing Company uses annually.

By recycling methane emissions, it is environmentally friendly and energy efficient for a ski area like Aspen Snowmass.

This project has eliminated three times the carbon pollution created by the ski resort each year. The benefit of the project, and the electricity, does not go to the ski resort, but to the grid, reducing the carbon footprint of the entire region.
