The ski slopes at Abondance
The ski resort is part of the Franco-Swiss Portes du Soleil ski area, which encompasses 13 resorts. In France: Abondance, Avoriaz, Châtel, St Jean d’Aulps, La Chapelle d’Abondance, Les Gets, Montriond, Morzine-Avoriaz. In Switzerland: Champéry, Morgins, Torgon, Les Crosets and Champoussin. Nothing more and nothing less than 650 km of slopes!
With over 600 kilometres of slopes, this area is one of the largest in Europe. The more intimate resort of Abondance is ideal for skiers looking for peace and quiet, nature and direct access to family-friendly skiing.
Its own ski area, L’Essert, offers 13 well-maintained slopes served by 7 ski lifts. Abondance ski area offers 20 kilometres of well-balanced terrain, with one black, two red, six blue and four green runs—ideal for families and beginners, while the “Grand Frêne” black run promises excitement for seasoned skiers. Thanks to its sunny location and an efficient snowmaking system designed to minimise environmental impact, the resort guarantees reliable snow cover throughout the season.
It is also linked to the rest of the Portes du Soleil ski area by shuttle buses and extended ski passes, allowing you to vary your skiing and enjoy unlimited skiing.

Activities in the ski resort
In this alpine resort, you can enjoy snowboarding, downhill skiing and even cross-country skiing in the Abondance valley itself. Cross-country skiing in Abondance is a delight, with a total of 40 km of trails throughout the valley. In addition to the activities mentioned above, dog sledding is also worth mentioning. These are some of the most exciting activities on offer.
The resort also offers snowshoeing and marked trails for those who love to explore the exceptional scenery.

Just a stone’s throw from the village centre, the ice rink is perfect for after a hard day’s skiing. Animal slides and hockey games are available for the little ones to enjoy. On the 740 m² ice rink, numerous themed evenings are organised during the winter so that you can have as much fun as possible.
Sustainable development at the Abondance ski resort
Climate and energy
The resort is committed to an ambitious energy transition, notably with the hydrogen-powered snow groomer project, which aims to introduce this clean technology in mountain areas. All ski areas must have carried out a carbon assessment within three years. In addition, eco-driving training is being rolled out across the board: all snow groomer drivers will be trained within five years, and ski lift operators within two years. An energy-efficient automatic control system is also being deployed. During off-peak periods, the resort adapts the use of ski lifts to limit their energy consumption.
Water and agriculture
Water management is optimised through the creation of water reserves to smooth out artificial snowmaking requirements. Resorts with more than six snow groomers will accurately measure snow depth to produce the right amount. In the event of drought, water sharing with livestock farmers and for essential needs (firefighting, drinking water) is planned.
Biodiversity
Within five years, each operator will have an ecological inventory of their territory (fauna, flora, sensitive areas), which will be updated during works. Particular attention is paid to the protection of mountain galliformes: all cables that could be dangerous to their flight will be marked.
Landscapes
The resort is committed to systematically replanting areas disturbed by work with local seeds and dismantling obsolete installations in order to preserve the integrity of the landscape.
Waste
Every year, a waste collection operation is organised and an awareness campaign for skiers and hikers is carried out in 100% of resorts, often in partnership with associations.
These commitments demonstrate a strong desire to integrate environmental issues into the daily and strategic management of the resort.
