Le Sauze is a ski resort located in the Ubaye Valley, in the Alps (Alpes de Haute Provence).  Resort-village located 4 km from Barcelonnette in the center of the Ubaye valley. The resort stands out for its warm welcome, spontaneity, and joviality. It has hotels at the foot of the slopes, as well as small chalets that bring that feeling of comfort that few resorts hold.

Le Sauze resort features

Dotted with valleys that give the slopes softness and integrity, Le Sauze ski resort offers an area where children and adults thrive and have fun. The Fours sector, which runs up to the Alps sector, from 1400 to 2450 meters, has a total of 65 km of slopes for all levels. Large boulevards, hills, trails in the forest, each one finds a corner that suit them, always with quality snow altogether with an omnipresent sun.

If they close the trails, hike or snowshoe along the marked trails; Alone, as a couple, or with your family, sunbathe on a terrace to enjoy a relaxing moment and recharge your batteries in the Ubaye sun.

The Sauze is a moderately sized ski resort. Its alpine ski area stretches from 1400 to 2400 meters above sea level on 65 kilometers of trails of all levels served by 23 lifts.

Layout of the slopes at Le Sauze

The alpine domain of the Le Sauze ski resort is divided into four sectors. From Sauze 1400, after jumping on the chairlift of the same name, we find a sector for beginners (green and blue slopes); with the inclusion of the Cabanes red track to challenge the bravest.

Keep in mind that thanks to its artificial snow cover, this sector guarantees the return on skis to the heart of the resort throughout the season.

At Sauze 1700, you will face the Brec sector, undoubtedly the most varied in the domain. It holds slopes of all levels, such as the famous “Carole Merle” trail named after the local ski champion (World champion in Morioka in 1993, the most successful French skier in the history of world cup skiing with 22 victories ).

The Fours sector (among 1650 and 2400 meters above sea level) is the preferred area for great skiers. Face this sector to find the most technical trails (La Rente, Col des Fours …)

In Alp we find 3 lifts (Alp chair lift and Bergères and Dôme lifts) and very much trails with a smooth profile (2 green and 2 blue), especially suitable for beginner or intermediate skiers. In this sector we find 2 of the 3 black trails in Le Sauze, Tête Dure and Accroland (both accessible through the Dôme ski lift).

Make the most of the varied, fun and very rugged landforms of the ski area that offers many easily accessible off-piste lines. A compulsory visit is the red trail “Carole Merle”, with a significant difference in altitude, ofering breath taking views of the entire surroundings of the resort.

The mountain is also a destination to rest

To regain strength, it is best to visit the Dôme restaurant to spend a night in a yurt, around the wood stove, while enjoying local dishes. We can share these experiences with a typical mountain meal in the chalet and continue with a relaxing Norwegian bath. A well deserved pause that we will enjoy more if we are accompanied by family or friends.

Another experience to try at least once during your stay is to spend a night in an igloo in Inuksuk village. This area only exists during winter and when snow is abundant, since it is an area of frozen igloos over 2000 meters. Carefully decorated with animal skins, wrought iron lamps, they offer a unique and unforgettable experience while maintaining a welcoming spirit. The atmosphere becomes particularly magical at dusk when the town lights up. The igloo village is 100 m from a small tall wooden chalet that will serve as a base camp and restaurant for maximum comfort.

If we want to escape to the surroundings of the resort, the La Bergerie du Loup farm inn is known for its variety of local dishes and flavors. This restaurant prepares delicious dishes with traditional Provencal, Piedmontese and Côte d’Azur recipes.

At Le Sauze we will have fun in a thousand ways

Le Sauze has little to envy at larger resorts aimed to mass tourism. Every year the resort’s animation department offers numerous events (sports competitions, contests, festivals, etc.) to further enhance your stay.

If you are a skier or snowboarder,  beginner or advanced level, you will find in Le Sauze two perfect ski schools to progress and develop as an athlete.  The schools are the ESF (French Ski School) as well as the ESI (International Ski School).

Furthermore, for a different education, you can also call an independent instructor (Rider Connection / Benoît Bastien); They will guide you through the snowpark while teaching you slopestyle and freestyle techniques.
