Le Sappey en Chartreuse, a ski resort also considered resort-village, welcomes you just fifteen minutes from Grenoble. Gateway to a renowned mountain range, this charming village located at an altitude of 1000 meters has retained its alpine character; nestled in an environment of forests and mountain pastures.

Shaping the southern balcony of Chartreuse, Le Sappey invites you to come and discover for a few days or a weekend the incredible surroundings of the Chartreuse Regional Natural Park.

 

Le Sappey ski resort features

 

At the resort we find many sporting and cultural activities, throughout the year, to delight skiers, families, nature lovers and outdoor sports enthusiasts: hiking, orientation, acrobatic forest park, mountain biking. Mountaingeneering, alpine and nordic skiing, snowshoeing, exhibition gallery and historical monuments. It also highlights the Traversée de Chartreuse, the Croix de Chamechaude, the rise of the 3 cities, the Crantée de Chamechaude, craft festivals, etc.

 

The ski resort is part of the Chartreuse Regional Natural Park, famous for its heritage and natural wealth. Heading towards Saint-Pierre de Chartreuse, crossing the Col de Porte, we discover this famous family ski resort that benefits from an exceptional snow cover throughout the winter. It is an ideal place to practice Nordic skiing, downhill skiing, and many winter sports. At the same time, it represents an essential outlet for hiking.

A few kilometers from the Grande Chartreuse museum and the Saint-Hugues-en-Chartreuse museum of contemporary art; Le Sappey is also a meeting point for those seeking cultural and contemplative tourism.

Charming family resort, placed 15 km from Grenoble, is a destination suitable for all skiers. For amateur skiers we have the ” Baby ” ski lift, which serves the green trails, and for the most experienced, the Grand Sommard ski lift that serves two red trails.

The Sappey ski area in Chartreuse consists of 5 ski lifts, including the “Baby” ski lift, which serve a total of 6 slopes (2 green, 2 blue and 2 red with a difference in altitude of more than 300 m).

For new winter sports enthusiasts, the resort offers courses to learn or improve in the freestyle area.

The C2P (Col de Porte Snowpark) is one of the oldest French snowparks and the closest to Grenoble.

In the Prairie sector we find rails, boxes and snow modules in a treated and trodden terrain; facilities in the upper part of the Col de Porte ski area most frequented by families and children.

 

The beginner snow park is located on the slopes of the Pinéa ski lift; while at the top of the Prairie ski lift we find another intermediate level snowpark and a funslope that includes the starting point of a forest trail on the slopes.

 

With more than a dozen modules placed on the same line, it offers Isère’s largest trail with modules.

The park is open every Wednesday afternoon and on weekends, as well as every day during the French school holidays.

 

 

Cross-country skiing and surrounds of the resort

 

Cross-country ski enthusiasts will enjoy touring the Nordic area of Chamechaude, which includes Sappey-en-Chartreuse, Col de Porte and Saint-Hugues-de-Chartreuse. It has more than 60 km of Nordic trails around Chamechaude Mountain, the highest point in the Chartreuse massif. All the trails are interconnected and laid out for the practice of classic and skating modalities.

Three hostels welcome you to Le Sappey, Col de Porte and Saint-Hugues-de-Chartreuse and offer cross-country skiing, ski and snow shoe rental and rest areas.

 

Around Sappey in Chartreuse, you will also discover 5 marked routes for snowshoeing, with free access. You can rent snowshoes and poles for cross-country skiing at any of the Sappey shops. A route map is available at the tourist office (open in the morning) and at the Sappey cross-country ski center.

 

Le Sappey cultural heritage

 

In the territory of Sappey-en-Chartreuse, specifically Saint-Eynard, there is an 18th century military fort. Perched at 1338 m above sea level, it was built to protect Grenoble from possible invasions by Savoy. It offers visitors a panoramic view of the Grenoble valley, Grésivaudan and the Alps, up to Mont-Blanc on a clear day.

It can be reached by a small road or by a hiking route from Col de Vence. You can eat at the Relais du Saint-Eynard in summer and visit the open-air exhibition dedicated to the history of the fort.

 

The Chartreuse gallery is a 53 m2 space located in the center of the Le Sappey ski resort. It houses exhibitions of paintings, photos, sculptures by the artists of the region throughout the year.

La Bonne Fabrique is a project created by a group of residents with the aim “bien vivre ensemble” (living together) in a rural territory and close to a large urban area, Grenoble.
