Location of the La Clusaz ski resort

The many small villages that make up the ski resort gives it its authentic Savoyard character. La Clusaz is also a ski resort renowned for its sportive character and festive afternoons after skiing.

With formidable snow cover, the La Clusaz ski area holds the slopes of the Massif des Aravis that connects the resort with those of Le Grand Bornand, Manigod and St. Jean de Sixt.

Located in the heart of Aravis, in Haute-Savoie, La Clusaz is one of the best-rated tourist destinations in the French Alps. A prestigious resort on the map of the winter sports, La Clusaz is distinguished by its sportive aim and, at the same time, a relaxed atmosphere.

The resort has a wonderful ski area that blends with a unique environment. Also the warm welcome of the people in this region has big part in the charm of the Savoyard mountains. A resort rich in culture and traditions, where the sweetness and appeal of an authentic high mountain village has known, year after year, to adapt to the new needs of visitors.

History of the La Clusaz ski resort

The first skiers date from 1909, but its growth as a resort began in 1956 with the construction of the Beauregard cable car. This fact meaned the birth of sports tourism (skiing, hiking …), which led to the construction of hotels, restaurants, shops and other facilities. The city of La Clusaz has been classified as a ski resort by decree since May 1956.

Then, also by decree from June 1969, winter sports and mountaineering resort. It currently has 86 ski trails over 126 kilometers, or 96 km if we count the combined length of the trails.

The resort has a wide range of winter sports facilities. Since the 2008-2009 season, the resort has a hands-free forfait system with electronic terminals at the entrance to the ski lifts.

Layout of the slopes in La Clusaz

The Beauregard gondola (which can carry 1800 people per hour) provides access to a beginner-oriented summit. It also has four ski lifts (Névé, Etoile des Neiges, Aiglon and Ceutire). The Beauregard Plateau also provides access to Col de Croix-Fry and Col de l’Étale via a long and winding trail (Les Prises) running through fir trees. Cross-country ski enthusiasts will find a beautiful area there.

The Aiguille massif is the most frequented in La Clusaz, the slopes are of a fairly easy level and offers various routes through the forest. The negative face of this massif is its “pylons and cables forest”. During the first half of the 2010s, maintenance and remodeling work was carried out in this sector, specifically on the Crêt du Merle ski lift.

The Etale massif is facing to the south and is the least visited area, but it is highly appreciated by experienced skiers. It is a bit difficult to access this massif, since you have to go up the Beauregard plateau and descend a blue trail. Or, descend a trail open to the public very rarely in the season.

This area also underwent renovations and maintenance; the lifts were replaced by a Telemix capable of moving 2500 p / h (new kind of lift that mixes chair lift and gondola), including the Etale and the Belvédre chair lift.

The Massif de la Balme is the highest massif in the area and is very popular among off-piste lovers; It includes a gondola, two fixed chair lifts, and two ski lifts. From the Col de Balme, you can see Mont-Blanc.

The facilities combine modernity and tradition

Sporty and dynamic in summer and winter, La Clusaz has the charm of a family resort, the energy of an international alpine resort; and the appeal of a mountain village that has managed to preserve its identity. The Clusaz offers a bunch “off-ski” activities for the most athletic and the most contemplative: paragliding, hot air ballooning, ice driving, snowmobiling, ice skating, airboarding, paintball, snowshoeing to the moonlight, night in an igloo …
