Sustainable development of the Wolf Creek ski resort

The Wolf Creek Ski Resort believes in the importance of the use of sustainable energy sources and that businesses themselves should lead by example in this regard. For this reason, Wolf Creek buys 100 percent of the energy used all over the mountain and year-round from a green energy provider, Tri-State Generation and Transmission, which then supplies SLVREC, Wolf Creek’s local power company. This green power is generated from two nearby wind farms in Medicine Bow, Wyoming.

While such energy is currently costlier, Wolf Creek is committed to significantly promoting the necessity of environmentally sustainable business methods. On average, Wolf Creek consumes 145,900 kwh per month, which equates to taking 241 cars off the road annually.

WOLF CREEK HAS BEEN CREDITED BY THE FOREST SERVICE FOR SUBSIDIZING 100% OF ITS POWER CONSUMPTION THROUGH THE USE OF WIND ENERGY.

Over the past 17 years, Wolf Creek Ski Resort has been involved in a long-term study of rainfall water quality. This program is carried out in partnership with the University of Illinois to identify patterns of acid rain and acid snow.

Prospector Ridge, the Glory Hole and the Boundary Bowl Black Diamond: The access is via the swallow gate on the left at the peak of the Treasure Chair. The Prospector Ridge route requires only a few minutes to navigate and offers a reasonably stiff slope and a cliff face. Beyond along the ridge line, Glory Hole and Boundary Bowl feature longer, winding stretches that often include small rock falls. An advanced intermediate level is recommended. The gate shuts at 3:30 pm on a daily basis.
