Sustainable development of the Whistler Blackcomb ski resort
Currently, Whistler Blackcomb follows the 4Rs for waste (reduce, reuse, recycle, reuse) with a strong focus on recycling and
there has been a reduction in waste of over 70% since 2000.
Food service, by the nature of its activity, accounts for almost 72% of Whistler Blackcomb’s waste flow and is therefore a key priority for effective waste control.
In 2009, improvements were made at the three main food service sites to enhance waste diversion rate levels through more effective sorting and the integration of a composting waste stream.
In 2010, a sustainable energy micro-hydro plant, located in the heart of Whistler Blackcomb, under the Peak 2 Peak gondola, went into production. Built through a partnership with BC Hydro and Innergex,
the facility returns the equivalent of Whistler Blackcomb’s yearly demand to the network.
Not only does it have a zero operational footprint, but it is a good deal. To date, its sustainability programs are saving more than $1 million a year and contributing to improved efficiency and satisfaction for employees and customers.

Bobsleigh action at Whistler

One of Whistler’s most unique activities is the Whistler Sliding Centre’s passenger bobsleigh experience! No prior experience is necessary. Following an orientation, you slide into a real bobsleigh, driven by a qualified bobsled pilot.
Together with your team, you will travel through ten turns at speeds of over 125 km/h and feel the rush. Every year, the Whistler Sliding Centre is the only place in Canada where people can try the bobsleigh and ride like an Olympian.
Personal bobsledding works rain, snow or shine, as it is found indoors, so no need to look at the weather forecast.
Whistler Blackcomb mountain resort in summer
Experience a 360 view of Game of Thrones-like wall
For a short period in early summer, a maze of snow walls stretches over the Pika’s Traverse on Whistler Mountain.
Carved out of an abundance of snow from winter, these walls offer visitors a one-stop access to the alpine space.
However, they are not everlasting, so please experience them first hand before they melt away. These snow walls are just one element of the Peak 2 Peak 360 experience.

Views to the world-record holding skyline
Straddling the gap between Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains, the world record-holding PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola features an unrivaled bird’s eye view of British Columbia’s skyline and unbeatable views of soaring volcanic peaks, coastal rain forests and ancient glaciers.
