The Tavascan Ski Resort, Estació d’Esquí Tavascan in Catalan, also known as “Pleta del Prat” is a ski resort located in L’Alt Pirineu Natural Park. In the Lleida Pyrenees, more specifically in the northernmost area of the Pallars Sobirà region, in the village of Lladorre. The most important nearby town is Sort (approx. 34 km), and as a reference, Barcelona is about 277 km.

Its tracks run through a valley between two mountains, between the 1.750 m minimum elevation at 2.250 m. The lowest elevation is found next to the “Pleta del Prat” refuge.

Location of the Tavascan resort

Alpine skiing has been practiced in this resort since 1991. It is located in the Mascarida valley, surrounded by forests and impressive landscapes. This area experienced no major changes; this is the main reason why it mantains a low population, where traditional architecture has been respected. As well as the local flora and fauna without major changes. Given these reasons, is a very visited place by mountain lovers in its pure state.

In the heart of the Lleida Pyrenees, it stands out for being a young resort. With only a chairlift, a magic carpet and a ski lift, but with infinite possibilities for off-track skiing thanks to the special set of the slopes and the chairlift.

On the map, it is a small station. With no more than 5 kilometers of marked paths, on the ground it is a much larger station, since its practical skiable area is off-piste. It is located around the Refugio de la Pleta del Prat, in the Mascarida valley.

The average accumulated snowfall per season are 7 meters. They have a single low pressure snow cannon located in the beginners area of the lower elevation. The meteorological key factor in this resort are the storms from the Atlantic ocean.

A small and cozy ski resort: Tavascan

It has 3 lifts; 1 two-seater chairlift with a 500 meter drop with an intermediate stop, 1 ski lift and a magic carpet. It is one of the smallest ski resorts in the Catalan Pyrenees.

There are 6 tracks (2 green, 1 blue, 2 red and 2 black) totaling 6 km. North orientation and heights between 1.750 and 2.250 m.

It maly consist on a main slope that acts as a central axis and variants that have their start and the exit on this central slope. The Nordic ski area has 17 kilometers marked circuits, among 1.750 and 2.100 m. The off-piste in Tavascan is its reason for being. The chair lift acts as a central axis in a valley in which, on both sides, dozens of possibilities open up for practicing off-piste in channels, shovels, and corners with different orography.

The resort had a wooden module snow-park currently in disuse.

It is a very small resort (only 4 kilometers of slopes), but it offers much more than skiing. It is part of the Alt Pirineu Natural Park. It is a “high mountain resort”. In a very small valley, a rift between mountains. We find 14 kilometers of cross-country skiing, 4 kilometers of alpine, a lot of snow for freeride and dreamlike routes for mountain skiing (including the ascent for little experts to Coma del Forn (2.681 meters).

Activities throughout the year

Tavascán is not a destination for those who like to ski without stepping  through the same place twice. But it is a great mountain for snow sports and among them alpine skiing; with a beginners area, a lifter for initiates, and a chairlift  for experts and enthusiasts of the off-piste.

In summer, Tavascán works by itself. Sadly, it has many visitors and the refuge-cafeteria is too small. Many people come to the resort, to see  the mountains or the lakes. But without the resort, during winter the valley would be empty.

That is why the refuge was born with a cross-country ski resort with fantastic views. Later came the ski lift and the alpine resort and finally its commitment to mountain skiing and snowshoe trails. One of the first arva parks (avalanche transceiver) was installed here (they hide an arva in the snow and teach them to look for it) and there is a mountain ski school. The mountain itineraries are reviewed daily and modified to make them safe.

Union means strength

Espot, Port Ainé and Tavascan, commercially united under the umbrella of SkiPallars, create a unified and consolidated product, a single pass that allows you to discover in a single purchase the different resorts of the Pallars Sobirà. Also in the vicinity is the neighboring Virós-VallFerrera, a cozy mountain resort.

These resorts are nestled between the National Park of Aigüestortes and Estany de Sant Maurici and the Natural Park of Alt Pirineu. Where snow accumulates all over the season, with a family atmosphere and especially fascinating landscapes. The ski tradition is also complemented by a wide range of activities and gastronomy, to make this a privileged mountain tourist destination.
