Sustainable development of the Plan de Corones ski resort

In an effort to use energy and water in the most sustainable way possible,

the Plan de corones has adopted a series of measures that have made the ski area as one of the most environmentally conscious winter sports areas in the world.

Renewable energy-powered lifts, noiseless snow cannons and self-propelled snow grooming machines have been implemented in the station to ensure that the resources needed for skiing are used sparingly and sustainably at the Plan de Corones.

Wherever possible, the thirty-two ski lifts and gondolas and the approximately five hundred snow guns on South Tyrol’s first ski mountain are run on renewable energy from hydroelectric power. This is why the Corones Plan has been awarded the “Green Energy Logo” several times in recent years.

Unforgettable experiences in Plan de Corones

Sledding the need to to climb up

There are two possibilities for those who appreciate their comfort and want to skip a long climb on foot in the Plan de Corones ski area.

Whether you decide to descend down the Korer or the Cianross toboggan, you can easily go up to the top of both runs with a cable car.

You will not be “huffing and puffing” once you are at the top, and you will be as fresh as a pine tree ready for some sledding action.

Kid’s Safety Park

The Kids’s Safety Park is a closed-off section of the Olang 2 ski slope and is found underneath the Alpen Connecting mountain terminal. With its slalom run, its numerous bends and tunnels, and even a castle, the park offers plenty of fun, and is an ideal place for those young skiers who are to have their first experience on the slopes.

But above all, the Kids’s Safety Park is a high-quality learning facility in which the ski instructors use a playful way to give children a better sense of the correct behaviour on the ski runs.

Plan de Corones mountain resort in summer

Paragliding over the Val Pusteria

Flying is a time-honoured tradition on the Plan de Corones-Kronplatz.  Situated in the centre of the Val Pusteria-Pustertal valley, the mountain is easily accessible by cable car. It offers excellent flying conditions and a fantastic panoramic views of the Dolomites on one side and the main ridge of the Alps on the other.

The best thing about this sport is that you don’t have to master it on your own. Two-seater pilots are happy to take control and manage almost everything by themselves. It is enough to run a few metres on take-off and landing and for the rest, you will simply float in the air above the Val Pusteria.
