With its sights set on the start of the Freeride World Tour 2026, Pangea Collective presents an unprecedented collection of four independent documentaries that delve into the more human, emotional and technical dimensions of modern freeriding. Rather than a series format, the American production company offers four stories with their own identity, each focusing on an athlete and the dilemmas, fears and revelations that marked their 2025 season.
The short films will premiere free of charge on YouTube between 12 December 2025 and 9 January 2026, in a schedule that strategically accompanies the key moments leading up to the start of the Freeride World Tour competition in Baqueira Beret on 16 January 2026.
The four 15-minute shorts share an aesthetic and narrative philosophy that combines immersive filming, uncontrived interviews, and a very real approach that seeks to capture the moment without intervention. The hand of Ethan Herman, creative director of Pangea Collective, can be seen in the combination of large-scale shots with an emotional touch that draws attention and would fit well with some of the best films set in winter. The result is a powerful narrative mosaic, combining 4K mountain cinema, real-life filming, excellent editing and an intimate approach to the emotional state of four athletes who represent the complexity of contemporary freeriding: constant risk, the search for identity, resilience after a fall and technical precision taken to the extreme.
Four perspectives to understand an extreme sport
1. Ross Tester – Comeback
The first film, available on 12 December, tackles one of the most eagerly awaited comebacks on the circuit. Ross Tester returns to the Tour after stepping away from competition to rediscover the deeper meaning of his skiing. The documentary honestly shows the tension between natural talent, external expectations and psychological exhaustion.
The viewer gets to see not only the creative and intuitive Ross on the snow—with fluid lines, wild jumps and exceptional terrain reading—but also the vulnerable Ross who is seeking to rebuild himself from within. The film serves as a reflection on identity and the price of early success in a circuit as demanding as the FWT.
2. Holden Samuels – Outlier
Premieres on 19 December. Samuels, a snowboarder who trained in an almost exclusively skiing environment in Big Sky, grew up in the snow as “the odd one out” or an anomaly within the system. That outsider status is the focus of the film, which explores how his sense of difference ended up becoming a creative driving force and an affirmation of his personality and passion for snowboarding.
The documentary combines verité scenes in his mountain home, intimate moments with his family, and the emotional pressure of the 2025 season. The result is a portrait of sporting and personal maturity, and a tribute to those who blaze trails where there were none before.
3. Taylor Dobyns – Redemption
On 2 January, Pangea releases its most emotionally intense piece yet. Following a serious accident in Verbier that ended his 2024 season, Taylor Dobyns faces a recovery process marked by fear, doubt and slow physical progress.
Redemption delves into the silent spaces of elite sport: physiotherapy, days without progress, rebuilding self-esteem and the struggle to trust one’s own body again. His return to the Baqueira ski resort shows the psychological dimension of freeriding with a clarity that is unusual in mountain cinema.
4. Jonathan Penfield – Technician
The collection closes on 9 January, just one week before the start of the 2026 FWT. Penfield is a unique figure on the circuit: a professional snowboarder and active biochemist.
The short film elegantly reveals the intersection between science and sport: snow analysis, meticulous line selection, objective risk assessment, and rational management of fear. Far from presenting a cold personality, the film shows how logic can become a form of freedom and how the balance between two careers redefines his relationship with the mountain.
A calendar designed to accompany FWT fans
Pangea Collective has structured the release dates to accompany the growing public interest in the weeks leading up to the Tour. The premieres on 12 and 19 December align with the start of the snow season; those in January connect directly with the excitement generated by the inaugural event in Baqueira Beret on 16 January 2026.
All documentaries will be freely accessible on Pangea Collective’s official YouTube channel, a strategy that allows them to reach a global freeride audience and amplifies the visibility of athletes at one of the most decisive moments of the year.
