The Risoul ski resort (1,850m-2,750m), is preparing for a major upgrade of its facilities for the 2024-2025 winter season.
Located in the Hautes-Alpes department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, it is part of the La Forêt Blanche ski area, which it shares with Vars, offering a combined 185 kilometres of slopes easily accessible from cities such as Grenoble and Marseille.
Risoul: a new state-of-the-art chairlift for the 2024-2025 season
The new “L’Homme de Pierre” chairlift, which will replace two older lifts, promises to revolutionise the skier experience by offering increased capacity and speed in one of the resort’s most iconic sectors.
This new six-seater detachable chairlift will be a significant technological breakthrough. With a capacity to carry more than 2,800 skiers per hour and an improved ascent speed, it will significantly reduce waiting times, providing faster and more efficient access to the slopes of the L’Homme de Pierre sector. The chairlift will replace two old lifts that have been in operation for decades, marking a major advance in comfort and sustainability for the Risoul ski resort.
A key project for Risoul
The new chairlift will not only improve the infrastructure, but is also part of a wider project to modernise the resort, which aims to consolidate Risoul as a benchmark destination for skiing and winter tourism. The aim is to increase the resort’s competitiveness, attract new skiers and offer a smoother and more modern experience to its visitors.

Impact on tourism and sustainability
Investment in this type of infrastructure reflects Risoul’s commitment to improving the tourism experience and to sustainable development. The new chairlift is designed to be more energy efficient and less invasive of the natural environment. In addition, the operators have pointed out that such projects are essential to remain competitive in a sector where more and more resorts are opting for advanced technology and high quality services.
Risoul launches a charity auction in support of the “League Against Cancer”.
In a gesture of solidarity, the Risoul ski resort has announced the launch of a charity auction for the Ligue contre le cancer. This auction, which will take place from 9 to 23 September 2024, aims to raise funds to support the organisation’s prevention, research and patient support activities.
The object of the auction are the Césier chairlifts, which will be replaced by the new state-of-the-art chairlift in the 2024-2025 season. This is a unique opportunity for collectors and ski enthusiasts who wish to acquire a historic piece of the resort and, at the same time, contribute to a noble cause.
All proceeds will be donated in full to the“League Against Cancer”, helping to fund essential programmes in the fight against this disease. The initiative reinforces Risoul’s commitment to the community, not only through its tourism offer, but also through its involvement in important social causes.
Expectations for the coming season
With delivery scheduled for December 2024, this new chairlift comes at a key moment for the resort, which attracts thousands of international skiers each year. The resort expects this modernisation to help improve operational capacity and offer a superior experience on its 185km of slopes.
In short, the addition of the new L’Homme de Pierre chairlift marks a turning point in Risoul’s infrastructure, which continues to move forward to meet the expectations of the most demanding skiers and consolidate its position as one of the best ski destinations in the French Alps.
