First of all, going to a resort over 1200 in altitude with babies under 12 months is not recommended. While going up, take a few stop so your baby can get used to the change of pressure. If it is unpleasant for us, it is one of the first times your bay goes up in altitude, drinking water or milk can help. And do not forget to go to the pediatrician before leaving. Taking a special first-aid kit can also be very helpful once you are at the resort.

Be careful with the cold, and take very warm cloth with you, made for babies and adapted for very low temperatures. And do not forget to protect the face the lips and the hands of your baby with a high protection solar cream and sunglasses because UV rays are much stronger on the mountain.

If you are planning to take your baby on the terrace or out in the snow, try to go around noon so it is not too cold, between 11 am and 3 pm.

Serre Chevallier, a resort for families.

Located near the French Riviera, in the Hautes-Alpes, it is a huge ski area situated on 6 different communes. It is at 1200 meters in altitude but its highest Peak is Le Pic de l’Yret which reaches 2830 meters above the sea level. In 2008 the resort won the prize “Famille Plus Montagne” meeting the following criteria:

-Reception service adapted for families
-Entertaining provided for children of all ages.
-A nearby medical service
-A staff taking special care of children

First assessment of the Office de Tourisme about the label “Famille Plus Montagne” “According to us, it is very successful. The tourists seem very satisfied and the services for families have been significantly improved. Moreover since 2008 we have been able to keep the label after each audit.”

As a result, these holidays adapted for families have increased the number of skiers in the resorts “being able to host families with very young children helped us to attract families during school terms. An offer “family package” for 4 people is available during school holidays (offer available for 2 parents and 2 children) and we see every year more families coming to Serre-Chevalier during school terms”.

We asked about the number of foreign families going on ski holidays in the resort “The Label Famille Plus Montagne is only national, it only impacts on French families. Our resort became a reference for families. We communicate a lot about the label to attract families, but it is hard to reach the other countries”.

The resorts qualified “Famille Plus Montagne” can host families in the best possible conditions: the accommodation, restaurants and other facilities of the station are accessible with strollers.

All the necessary baby kit is available and free (baby chairs, booster seat, changing table, bottle warmer, and bath). It is also possible to rent strollers. Because going to ski taking it in your car with your baby, you will not have room to put your skis and equipment in your car.

The resort labeled “Family Plus” provide nursery for children over 18 months. Learning activities are provided and available every day for your children and babies. But do not forget to book the service before leaving.
