The skin is the largest organ in our body and it is probably the one that suffer the most from seasonal and temperature changes. Its care is essential for both women and men. In winter, in addition in order to have a healthy diet and lifestyle, we must take special care of our skin, since it is exposed to cold and wind, which makes it more dehydrated, dried and cracked. We can take care of our skin with a few tricks, products and homemade masks.
When talking about snow trips in which exposure to cold, wind and sun are quite prolonged, it is even more important to give our skin a special treatment so that it doesn’t look tired, tight and dull. In fact, in this post we talked about the best moisturizers according to your skin type and why it is so important to take care of our skin even more in winter.
Experts recommend that we take care of our skin going to specialized centers (do not hesitate to ask for an expert opinion), but continuing with an intensive facial skincare at home through cosmetic products that are appropriate to our skin type and home remedies won’t hurt us.
That is why today we bring you here the recipes of some homemade masks that you can make at any time with common products from our shopping bag to show off a beautiful and a healthy skin. Natural and environmentally friendly food and ingredients have become very famous when we are talking about skincare. Avocado, fruit, oats, honey or cucumber are some of the foods with which we can make our fantastic homemade masks.
Our recommendation: improvise a spa or a beauty session at home once a week, not only to take care of your skin, but also to enjoy some time for yourself, relax and get rid from the stress of the week.
Hydration is essential
At this time of the year, hydration is essential, both internally and externally. We will achieve this by worrying about drinking at least two liters of water a day and using moisturizers and homemade masks, giving our skin an extra hydration.
However, we cannot forget about the importance of daily cleansing, both when getting up and when going to bed. The natural homemade cleansing product par excellence is olive oil or, as it is called, the “liquid gold”. There is no better cleanser than olive oil and more, if your skin needs an extra dose of hydration. Of course, it may not be recommended if you have an oily or acne-prone skin.
Preparing the skin for treatment with a homemade exfoliation
It is advisable to exfoliate once or twice a week. An ideal exfoliator will be achieved by mixing oats with sugar. Sugar is the homemade ingredient for exfoliating par excellence. With a lot of love and care, we have to apply our homemade scrub making gentle circles and, later, we have to clean our face with milk or warm water.
Another recipe that we love includes oatmeal (we will talk about oatmeal later). This time, for your exfoliating mask you have to mix 3 tablespoons of oatmeal, 2 teaspoons of honey, a tablespoon of sugar and the juice of half an orange. Beat until you get a paste and, with circular movements apply the mask. Then, let it act for a few minutes and then rinse with warm water.
Homemade masks for dry skin
It is very important to know our skin type to be able to provide the most suitable ingredients.
If you have dry skin, create your homemade mask with a ripe avocado and a little olive oil. Apply the mask for about 10-15 minutes and remove it with warm water. This mask will give you an extra supply of wonderful antioxidants, vitamins and minerals to nourish your skin.
Homemade green apple mask to nourish our skin
The green apple has antioxidant properties (that delay aging) and high levels of collagen to provide elasticity to our skin. To make this mask, first, we must peel the apple and cook it in a saucepan. Afterwards, we have to crush the apple until we get a porridge and we have to let it cool for about 30 minutes before applying it on our face. After those 30 minutes, we have to add two tablespoons of olive oil and one of honey. We have to mix it well and apply it, leaving it to act for about 30 minutes and then removing it with warm water.
Homemade masks for oily skin
If you have oily skin, using highly nourishing ingredients (like the ones we have mentioned avoid) is not always better for your skin. If you use them, maybe you will leave excess sebum or unwanted oil on the skin.
An idea of a homemade mask is to beat an egg and apply it directly to your skin, leave it for half an hour and then wash with plenty of warm water.
Another idea is to use the egg white. You must beat the egg whites and moisten pieces of toilet paper inside them. Then, you have to place them on your face and, 30 minutes later, remove the pieces of paper in an upward direction and then rinse the face with warm water. This mask is ideal for removing pimples, blackheads and open pores.
Homemade masks for mixed skin
If you are one of those with mixed skin, try a homemade mask made with honey and a banana poached with a fork. Leave it to act for half an hour and remove with warm water. This mask will give you a dose of nutrition without adding excessive sebum.
Homemade yogurt mask
You only need to mix a yogurt with three tablespoons of honey in a non-metallic bowl. Yogurt helps to eliminate redness and irritation from the face after a cold day in the snow. In addition, it has antioxidant and antibacterial properties to prevent acne.
We can’t forget about oatmeal
Oatmeal is a great ally in natural homemade cosmetics thanks to its soothing and moisturizing properties.
A good idea may be to add to the homemade banana and honey mask that we have mentioned before, five tablespoons of oatmeal making an uniform paste. Let it act for 15 minutes and remove with warm water.
Homemade oatmeal and honey mask
Add 3 tablespoons of oatmeal and 3 teaspoons of honey to a container, mix and apply to your face with circular movements. Let it act until it dries and remove it with warm or cold water. This mask will absorb the oil from your skin, neutralize your PH, and prevent your pores from clogging and creating the hated blackheads.
Homemade oatmeal and milk mask
In a bowl add ¼ cup of milk and 3 teaspoons of oatmeal. Let the cereal soak for about 10 minutes until it thickens. Apply it on your face making circular massages and leave it to act for 15 minutes, then rinse with cold or warm water.
Be careful with UV rays (especially when go skiing)
When we go skiing, it is mandatory that we remember to apply our sunscreen frequently if we want to take care of our skin and avoid the hated sun spots. Even if we apply our sunscreen, by spending so many hours in the cold, our skin will be more damaged and we may be more susceptible to UV rays. Therefore, at home we can help improve this issue by applying a homemade papaya mask with a tablespoon of olive oil. We will let it act for about 15 minutes and then we will remove it with warm water.
