Calabogie Peaks resort is one of the largest ski stations of Ontario, Canada. It is located between Toronto and Ottawa at the East of the Algonquin Provincial Park and on the riverside of Calabogie lake, an artificial and beautiful water reservoir of Eastern Ontario. To access the station from Ottawa (100km) , take the Trans-Canada Highway and the Calabogie Route. You can then park your car at the bottom of the station where you have direct access to the 3 chair lifts and the main features. The resort is located on the Dicksons Mountain, it is quite low compared to the western ski stations, at only 150-380 meters above the sea level ; but the resort is well equipped in snow cannons. In fact, it has 60 snow cannons and uses 2 types of machines that make snow, air guns and fan guns. The resort uses the water of the Calabogie Lake to produce the artificial snow, Man-made snow is not very different from natural snow, it only has a higher water volume. The resort features 2 chairlifts and a magic carpet that gives access to a variety of slopes for all level of skiers. The magic carpet is situated at the bottom on the station, beginners can take a few lessons before going down the steeper slopes on the upper part of the mountain. The two chairlifts the Solar Quad and the Lakeview Quad take you directly up to the top of the mountain for you to enjoy a long run down the hill and through the forest. Besides skiing, the station has developed 2 other snow activities, the Manitou Hiking and Snowshoeing Trails. They surround the mountain and allow you to walk all around the hill enjoying the scenery and the peace of the forest and the untouched fresh snow. There are also breath-taking cross country trails which give you access to a larger part of the mountain and to hidden immaculate slopes.
